1. Against all critics, #nationalsecurity legislation is effectively a done deal. Far earlier than previously expected, the law will be passed on or before JUNE 30, on eve of anniversary of #HK's transfer.

Tam Tak-chi was arrested by #HongKong police for #nationalsecurity law violation in the morning. @StandNewsHK reported the case involves remarks made Mar - Jul. ( isn’t the law retroactive? )

Among 12 #asylumseekers, a Portugal citizen was now detained in #China, w/ all access to lawyers/relatives blocked. Foreign nationals ain't only covered and wanted under #nationalsecurity, but also with human rights or rights to consular access & protection stripped before trial. twitter.com/joshuawongcf/s…

5. While #Beijing's #HK chief Xia Baolong is notorious for burning crosses & demolishing churches in China, not to mention that #CCP long considers religious activities as potential threats to #nationalsecurity, it is worrying similar religious crackdown will soon extend to HK.

7/ Technically instead of sending to China, DNA data could be directly handed over to the city’s newly established #nationalsecurity agency. Also, there is a loophole in #Hongkong’s law on personal data, which fails to bar data transfer to #China.

2. Before that, #Beijing has already been toughening its curb on media, from setting up a new #nationalsecurity unit in Immigration Dept to screen foreign correspondents' visa application, replacing news heads of credible TV providers, to interrupting local media's news coverage.

4/ With the ill-defined law interpretation and a #secretpolice agency imposed in #HK, the law will harm all foreign interests and ex-pats in this global city. #Xijinping proposed in 2017 that China’s #nationalsecurity covers economic and social aspects.

3/ Under the new law, the #secretpolice agency is just the first step for more China’s direct control. As Section 4 of the law reads “Central government can base on needs to set up institutions in HK to uphold #nationalsecurity.”
