As the dawn of 2019 approaches & this year draws to an end, I want to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas & holiday season. Looking ahead, I’ll carry forward my work & ensure #Taiwan continues to help build a more just, open, & prosperous world for all.
If you’ve been to #Taiwan, you must know that pork plays an essential role in Taiwanese delicacies. My government is sparing no effort to safeguard #foodsafety & protect local swine industry from African swine fever.
I wish to introduce Maj. Gen. Ku Li-tu, head of Matsu Defence Command’s political warfare unit. I’m proud that she‘s the 1st female to earn her stars since I took office & the 9th in the army's history. I hope her career will inspire a new generation of #Taiwan female soldiers.
Today is 2018’s last day of work for many people in #Taiwan who are ready to celebrate the new year. But not all servicemen & women get to go home for the holidays. I thank our service members & their families for the sacrifices they make to keep the country safe each & everyday.
As we countdown to 2019, I look back at this year with admiration. The resilience of #Taiwan people has & will continue to better this country & safeguard our shared democratic values. Join me for the Flag Raising Ceremony & live stream starting at 5 A.M. youtu.be/oLVnX-0BD7A
The theme for our 2019 new year's flag-raising ceremony is "Brave and Confident–One with the World." In our rapidly changing world, #Taiwan's best option is to persevere on the path of democracy, & work together with like-minded people around the globe. english.president.gov.tw/News/5618
As president of the Republic of China, I must stress that we’ve never accepted the “1992 Consensus,” & the “four musts” are crucial for positive cross-strait developments. I call on #China to bravely take steps towards democracy, so they can truly understand the people of #Taiwan
The Republic of China, #Taiwan operates exactly like all other democracies around the world. As the democratically elected president of this country, my most important responsibility is to defend our democratic values & way of life. My English remarks: english.president.gov.tw/News/5622
How we respond to anti-democracy forces will determine what kind of values we pass on to future generations. If you agree with the 23 million people of #Taiwan, who deeply cherish their democratic way of life, I hope you can #SpeakUpforTaiwan & defend our shared values together.
The letter by 44 scholars & retired officials who #SpeakUpforTaiwan is testament to global solidarity for #democracy. I thank them, & many like-minded people around the world, as when we guard our shared values together, #Taiwan will never be alone: goo.gl/Z6qC6b.
#Taiwan’s ranking rose to 32nd from 33rd. As president of this young & vibrant democracy, I’m honoured to work with the 23 million Taiwanese to safeguard the values that shape our national identity. With each step we take towards equality & justice, we’ll carry democracy forward. twitter.com/TheEIU/status/…
I thank the #AIT for supporting democracy & the democratically-elected government in #Taiwan. To those who #SpeakUpForTaiwan, thank you!
I thank Premier Lai as he took the baton from Premier Lin & laid a solid foundation for #Taiwan’s economy. I understand and respect his decision to resign. Today I appointed Su Tseng-chang as new premier & look forward to working with him to better this country!
As I reflect on election night 3 years ago today, I am deeply honoured to serve the country & work with my colleagues to move #Taiwan forward. Together, we will continue the journey, deliver on the promises I made to the people, & promote regional peace & prosperity.
Last year, we saw over 11 million tourists, marking the highest record. Also, on Wednesday I met so many lovely friends from home & abroad during my lunch break in Ximen. I wish to invite you to visit #Taiwan, the friendliest country in the world.
Thank you @RichardHaass for your timely visit & insights on global affairs. At this historical junction, the people of #Taiwan have a historical mission: To protect our democracy against threats. And we believe that when facing bullies, weakness only inspires greater aggression.
This is my new banner by Taiwan Beyond, an aerial filming firm, showing the resilience of the people of #Taiwan. We're going to have both brighter days & challenges ahead. When it comes to bullies, we'll remain brave & confident as we know weakness only inspires more aggression.
I thank the US House of Representatives for unanimously passing a bill supporting #Taiwan’s @WHO participation. #GlobalHealthSecurity requires joint efforts from countries around the world, including Taiwan. If you agree that no one should be left behind, please #SpeakUpForTaiwan

It’s an honor to be one of the 2019 #FPGlobalThinkers. This is recognition of #Taiwan’s democracy & social cohesion. It's also affirmation of the resilience of our people & ability to work together in realizing open government. Let’s remain Brave & Confident – One with the World! twitter.com/TaiwanNews886/…
The 23 million people of #Taiwan should not be denied their rights to contribute to global affairs. I thank the Kingdom of #Eswatini, #Kiribati, the #MarshallIslands, & #Tuvalu. They #SpeakUpForTaiwan & help expand our international space.
Since our countries established diplomatic ties in 1957, #Taiwan-#Paraguay exchanges have gone from strength to strength. Great to share views with Silvio Ovelar, president of the Paraguayan Senate. I’ll continue working with @MaritoAbdo to bring more benefits to our peoples.
At a time when anti-democratic forces are on the rise, I know I can count on those excellent servicemen & women who serve with honour, commitment, and professionalism. Together, we will ensure that #Taiwan remains a beacon of #democracy & freedom in the 21st century.
Always a pleasure to see my friend, @EdFeulner. In the 2019 Index of Economic Freedom, #Taiwan ranked 10th among 180 economies around the world, the all-time highest score. It's a recognition of my team who have worked hard to create a more open economy in Taiwan.
Every member in my administration, including man’s best friend, is working hard to protect #Taiwan from African swine fever!
At Sandiao Cape, the eastern tip of #Taiwan, our coast guards & lighthouse keepers are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of ships at sea. Their efforts reflect the character of this country: resilience, diligence, & endurance.
