1⃣Italy 🇮🇹 #IPAC members from five parties joined with @nathanlawkc in presenting a letter to Italian Foreign Minister Di Maio demanding China be held accountable for actions in Hong Kong. In response, Di Maio publicly re-affirmed Italy's commitment to Hong Kong's autonomy.
2⃣The Netherlands 🇳🇱 #IPAC co-chair @Martijncda held a press conference with Omir Bekali, who gave a moving testimony of surviving Xinjiang's Uyghur prison camps. Already, it was clear that Wang Yi's visit was not going to be as smooth as hoped. sfchronicle.com/news/article/D…
3⃣ Norway 🇳🇴 #IPAC co-chair @Trinesg spoke to Norway's Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide in advance of her meeting with Wang Yi, demanding human rights be top of the agenda. Later she addressed demonstrators gathered outside the meeting.
4⃣France 🇫🇷 @AndreGattolin, also an #IPAC co-chair, was prominent in the French media as Wang Yi visited Paris. He called on President Macron to take a tough line on Beijing's encroachment on freedoms in Hong Kong and excluding Huawei from 5G networks. formiche.net/2020/08/silk-g…
5⃣ Germany 🇩🇪 #IPAC members signed a joint letter to German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, published in the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The letter demanded Germany lead Europe's response to China's undermining of the international rules based order. sueddeutsche.de/politik/china-…
