Our predecessor was not part of Operation Overlord.
However HMS WARSPITE, a Queen Elizabeth Class Battleship, was the first to open fire on D-Day in support of landings by the British 3rd Div on Sword Beach.
She is also the most battle honoured ship in the @RoyalNavy
