Please read our latest review by @jan_choutka et al. on “Unexplained post-acute infection syndromes”. What a privilege to work with Jan Choutka, who is an #MECFS patient, expert and advocate. Grateful to @mhornig on her expertise/insights 🙏🏼 (1/) nature.com/articles/s4159…

Very excited that our PaxLC clinical trial on #longCOVID patients is now open, led by @hmkyale! This is a phase 2, 1:1 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled research study in 100 non-hospitalized highly symptomatic long COVID. (1/) clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT05…

For those interested in sharing science on Twitter, I wrote a short step-by-step guide on how to construct an effective thread. My new World View article in @NatImmunol (photo by @DanRenzetti). Hope you find it useful! #Scicomm rdcu.be/cP05X nature.com/articles/s4159…

Check out our latest review on the immunology and immunopathology of COVID-19 (both acute and #longCOVID). So fortunate to work with brilliant #womeninSTEM on this review - my #shero friends @MiriamMerad @blish_lab @sallustolab 💪🏼 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

This study found 39 breakthrough cases (85% alpha variant) in 1497 fully vaccinated healthcare workers. Most breakthrough cases were mild/asymptomatic, but 19% developed long COVID (>6 weeks); loss of smell, cough, fatigue, weakness, dyspnea, or myalgia. nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

My immunology lectures in @YaleMed ‘Attacks and Defenses’ course tomorrow will include discussions of post-acute infection syndromes (#PAIS) and #MECFS. So excited to be able to teach our medical students about these conditions and raise awareness of PAIS in future doctors!

Reflection: persistent viral RNA has been seen post-COVID and after other viral infections. Targeting and getting rid of such RNA may hold key to the treatment of #longCOVID and #MECFS patients who suffer from this pathogenesis. (End)

Omg 🤩 Our Prime and Spike 👃🏼 vaccine story is in the @RollingStone 👩🏻‍🔬 By @daxe with comments from @BenIsraelow rollingstone.com/culture/cultur…

The study found that the rate of complete remission from long COVID symptoms doubled in vaccinated patients compared to unvaccinated long COVID patients. Wow, vaccines appear to be helping long haulers with recovery 👏🏼 (2/)

A preprint by Michael Simon et al @ArcadiaHealthIT shows that COVID vaccines given before or AFTER infection can reduce incidence of #longCOVID, based on a retrospective analysis of the health record of 240,648 COVID-19-infected people. 🧵(1/) medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

I could not agree more with @EricTopol 👇🏽 While we are gaining more insights into the disease pathogenesis of #longCOVID, we also need to start well-designed randomized clinical trials now! Patients cannot wait any longer, and scientists will learn from RCTs to improve therapy. twitter.com/EricTopol/stat…

A very interesting paper from Dr. Mark Davis’ group shows that in response to the mRNA vaccine, CD8 T cell responses are attenuated in people who had prior COVID compared to uninfected people. What does this mean? (1/) doi.org/10.1016/j.immu…

Here is a piece I wrote with Dr. Albert Ko on why we need booster doses to maintain our immune responses against SARS-CoV-2. Help educate your immune system by being up to date with your booster doses to prevent severe COVID. @YaleCII @YaleSPH @YaleMed time.com/6198402/covid-…

Lack of funding for the next generation COVID vaccines, including nasal spray boosters, will slow our progress in providing immunity where it’s needed - at the point of viral entry👃🏼 Thank you @VinGuptaMD @NBCNews for this news coverage! #mucosalvaccine youtu.be/aIaeRaNyFX0

The dark side of #scicomm is that being out there giving interviews comes at a significant cost. I still do this because it is important to provide facts that are helpful to people, and to combat mis/disinformation that are harmful to people. But the abuse has got to stop 🛑 twitter.com/Nature/status/…

Our new data demonstrate the evolution of the Omicron variants in further suppressing MHC I expression and escaping detection/killing by CD8 T cells. Thus, in addition to evasion from Ab and innate immunity, MHC I ⬇️ by Omicron may further ⬆️ replication & transmission. (End)

Our latest study is about an immunocompromised patient with persistent COVID ➡️ treated with remdesivir but developed resistant mutation ➡️ was then cured by monoclonal Ab cocktail. Study by @gandhisk @sneakyvirus1 @epidememeology @marioph13 et al. (1/) medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

Thankfully, we have not seen any evidence of antibody-dependent enhancement of infection or disease by any COVID vaccines to date. Vaccine are not making infections worse, and are very effective in preventing disease. twitter.com/VirusesImmunit…

Next, with @nathavindra, autopsies from 9 individuals found to be SARS-CoV-2-positive by nasal swab PCR at the time of death were examined. Brains from those with even mild or asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection had microglial reactivity in subcortical white matter. (8/)

@thehowie @NateSilver538 I also made this figure in @BioRender to help people understand which antibody test will inform infection vs. vaccination. Hope people find this useful. Please share.
