What an amazing report to wake up to! Pfizer vaccine provided 100% protection in 12-15 year olds (18 cases of infection in the placebo group, and 0 among the children who received the vaccine). The n is small, but gives me so much hope for school opening in the near future. A++ twitter.com/apoorva_nyc/st…

After many months of planning and hard work by so many (incl. @hmkyale @dianaberrent @wade_schulz @CharleszYaleMed @aaronmring @DaisySMassey @JeffGehlhausen), today, we are launching our research study to understand how vaccination may help improve #longcovid. 🧵 (1/n) Pls RT🙏🏼

During this pandemic, I’ve seen people using their diverse talents to explain the virus, immunity and vaccines. @KeeneRoz uses her crochet skills to create a model #SARSCoV2 so that blind people can visualize the virus and its genome (plus bonus antibody). 😍🙏🏼 #scicomm

So wonderful to see this work published! Timing is everything when it comes to immune control of COVID. Neutralizing antibody production is delayed in lethal COVID. By the brilliant @carolilucas @sneakyvirus1 & #YaleIMPACT team 💪🏼(1/n) twitter.com/NatureMedicine…

A new study by @YaleSPH @ChenKai_yale & team shows that SARS-CoV-2’s reproductive number is attributable to seasonal factors; temperature (3.73%), humidity (9.35%) and UV radiation (4.44%). We need to vaccinate before the cold, dry, dark winter hits. news.yale.edu/2021/06/14/hea…

Latest preprint by @tianyangmao et al shows that a stem-loop RNA RIG-I agonist in mice can 1) Block viral replication and disease when given early after SARS-CoV-2 infection (including VOCs) 2)Eliminate chronic infection in immunodeficient mice 🧵(1/) biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Such an honor to discuss with Prof. Ron Davis of @StanfordMed about #MECFS - metabolism, chemistry, viruses and immunology! Start of a great collaboration.

Congratulations to @FabrizioChiodo and colleagues who worked so hard to develop conjugate vaccine against COVID-19 in Cuba 🇨🇺 Now with [RBD-TT]➡️ [RBD-TT] ➡️ [RBD-RBD] shots, efficacy is 91.2% 👏🏼 👏🏼 Adding this vaccine strategy as another success story in the fight against COVID! twitter.com/FabrizioChiodo…

This thread is about alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) - meat allergy induced by tick bites. I’ve been living with AGS for >2 yrs. I hope this info will help those who suffer from this illness without knowing the cause. Please help bring awareness to #AGS (1/n) resident360.nejm.org/clinical-pearl…

@bucketwoman0 @DocMoschos @kallmemeg Yes. Fully vaccinated people can still get long covid. Please see this entire thread by @dianaberrent 👇🏽 twitter.com/dianaberrent/s…

A very informative thread by @angie_rasmussen on how the delta variant may be more contagious. Striking findings 👇🏽 virological.org/t/viral-infect… twitter.com/angie_rasmusse…

How do the various mutations within the SARS-CoV-2 variants impact vaccine-induced immunity? The amazing @carolilucas @VogelsChantal @InciYildirim11 led this study with with help from others to tackle this question - using 18 CoV-2 variants. (1/n) medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

Previously infected people had higher neutralization against variants than the uninfected in response to vaccination. Future vaccine boosters may help to overcome such NAb reduction observed for the variants with the L452R (B.1.617.2) or E484K & N501Y combo (P.1 , B.1.351). (15/)

This study found 39 breakthrough cases (85% alpha variant) in 1497 fully vaccinated healthcare workers. Most breakthrough cases were mild/asymptomatic, but 19% developed long COVID (>6 weeks); loss of smell, cough, fatigue, weakness, dyspnea, or myalgia. nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

@dianaberrent @DanielGriffinMD I think this is possible, @dianaberrent. A higher viral load exposure will give more opportunity for the virus to replicate robustly in the olfactory mucosa and invade the CNS, after crossing the cribriform plate. This needs to be tested for Delta. nature.com/articles/s4159…

@thehowie @NateSilver538 I also made this figure in @BioRender to help people understand which antibody test will inform infection vs. vaccination. Hope people find this useful. Please share.

Today, we enrolled our 100th long covid patients in our collaboration with the @PutrinoLab to understand the pathogenesis of #longCOVID. So grateful to David, his team members and the patients for donating their blood samples 🙏🏼

Breakthrough infections are uncommon. However, you can get #longcovid from breakthrough infection. We don’t know how frequently long covid develops in fully vax people because CDC is not collecting such data. It is dangerous to get breakthrough infections. Please #vaxandmask
