In a room in Bowser's Castle in Paper Mario, Goombario suggests there may be an attack item hidden in the room. However, there are no items of any kind in the room. As all of his other hints of this kind are correct, this can mislead players into wasting their time searching.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there is an error in Mario's "wedding" costume that results in a hole between the model's shirt and trousers, through which the inside of the model can be seen. Although the model originates in Super Mario Odyssey, no such error is present there.

Often, video games that want to despawn an object will wait until it is slightly off screen to do so. A particularly notable example is in the Rambi Rumble level in Donkey Kong Country 2, where King Zing will instantly disappear if he is even a single pixel outside of the screen.

In Super Mario Bros. 3, entering quicksand with a flying power-up and flying back out will cause Mario to not assume his flying sprite as long as he is moving upwards. Depending on whether he flies straight up or to the side, he will appear to stand or walk in mid-air.

In the data of Super Mario Maker, early unused sprites of the Stretch enemy can be found in three of the four game styles. The sprites suggest they were intended to have two states, like regular Boos. This was later added to the nighttime Ground theme in Super Mario Maker 2.

Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door start with Parakarry delivering a letter (left). Zooming out the camera in both games after he leaves the screen shows that he never actually exits the scene, instead merely hiding behind a tree or the letterbox bars (right).

In the Bonus Mode of Mario Party 5, Boo is playable in the Ice Hockey minigame. All characters playable in that minigame wear ice skates; however, due to Boo having no shoes to attach the skates to, they are just two blades floating under him.

Mario Artist: Paint Studio for the Nintendo 64DD contains a render of Gruntilda from Banjo-Kazooie that is posed differently from renders in official Banjo-Kazooie material, resulting in official Banjo-Kazooie content that is exclusive to a Mario game.

The Boo in Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64 can be influenced from its adjacent rooms. Touching the wall in the Whomp's Fortress room will make it turn around, while coming in from the second floor and touching the wall in the Cool, Cool Mountain room will make it disappear.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Tostarenans are never seen without their ponchos that obscure the shape of their bodies. With a model editor, we can see what their bodies would look like without the ponchos. Note that they have no necks; the skull is simply floating above the torso.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga was released in Japan four days after its North American release. Despite the short time frame, changes were made to the Japanese version, such as Bowser's side view being changed to make Bowser slightly thinner and give him fuller hair and a smile.

In Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64, by repeatedly touching the left wall in the Whomp's Fortress room and then checking the hallway with the Boo, the Boo will eventually seemingly disappear. However, the Boo is not gone; it is actually displaced to the darkness beyond the door.

In Level 6-1 of Super Mario Bros. 2, if Pokeys are led off a cliff, they will continue floating in mid-air (top left). Although the game received two remakes in Super Mario All-Stars (top right) and Super Mario Advance (bottom), this issue was never fixed.

The beta version of Mario Kart 64, titled "Super Mario Kart R" during development, was intended to feature a Magikoopa, presumably Kamek, as a playable character instead of Donkey Kong. Here are all existing images of the Magikoopa from that version in the best quality available.
