The title screen of Super Paper Mario is the only time the game depicts Luigi's hair that is normally covered by his cap (left). During normal gameplay, Luigi has no hair under his cap, which can be seen by unloading the cap sprite (right).

In Paper Mario, there is a graphical glitch involving the Toad running the Toad House in Shiver City. If the game is paused immediately after Mario talks to him after waking up, upon unpausing the Toad will lose his winter clothes and stop smiling.

The 1999 PlayStation game 40 Winks mentions Mario on its North American cover, as it prominently displays the quote "Move over Mario..." from Nintendo Official Magazine. The magazine in question reviewed a Nintendo 64 copy of the game that ended up not being released.

A 1990 BBC documentary shows a scene from the level design process of Super Mario Bros. 3. The end of World 7-Airship is shown with two cannons (left), then a designer removes them (middle). This decision persisted into the finished version (right), which also has no cannons.

Naval Piranha's profile in Tetris Attack mentions Yoshi's mother. If Yoshi's mother is intended to be a female Yoshi, this would be the only instance of a female Yoshi being referenced in a Nintendo game, as every single other Yoshi whose gender has been identified has been male.

A graphical glitch occurs in Super Mario World whenever the player goes down a Warp Pipe while Yoshi eats a power-up. The effects include Yoshi having a pained expression, Yoshi's neck appearing broken, and Yoshi's tongue extending out of his nose. Details in image.

In Super Mario World, Cape Mario can defeat a Bob-omb after it has already exploded. Standing next to the explosion and performing a Cape Spin will revert the explosion back into a Bob-omb, which will then fall off-screen in its usual defeat animation.

Rare official art of Wart from Super Mario Bros. 2, found on a 1989 Nintendo of America sticker. This design resembles King Koopa from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show; it is possible that this was a rejected cartoon design for Wart before King Koopa was chosen as the villain.

A 1997 British official Nintendo promotional leaflet included with Nintendo 64 game purchases lists Yoshi's Story as "Yoshi's Island 64" and includes a preliminary logo as well as the tagline "Green psycho power for dino freaks!"

Officially licensed 2018 Super Mario masking tape from Japan. While appearing to be a simple camouflage pattern at an angle or from a distance (top left), the patterns are actually made from Mario character silhouettes (bottom right, zoom in to view).

In Super Mario Bros. 35, a glitch allows courses that have not yet been unlocked to be selected. If Down and A are pressed on the same frame, the course below the currently selected one will be chosen, even if it is not unlocked yet. Note how I select 5-2 and 6-2 is then chosen.

While the character section in Game & Watch manuals usually attempts to be detailed (Super Mario Bros., left); the Mario the Juggler manual is unusually succinct and has the following description for Mario: "Mario Juggles."

Unused animation of Mario performing a punch found in the data of Super Mario Galaxy. Like in Super Mario 64, Mario's fist enlarges during the punch. The animation is notably quick; it takes 4 frames, or 1/15 of a second, from wind-up to punch.

In Super Mario Bros. 2, if a Subspace door is positioned over a patch of grass and the player character plucks it quickly after exiting Subspace, the plucked object will be worn on the character's head instead of carried. Details in image.

In Donkey Kong 64, there are books on the shelves in the log cabins in Crystal Caves. The covers of all these books read "Monkey Book of Science, by M. Nuts". Due to the very dim lighting in the cabins, these are hard to see; I have increased the contrast in the image.

Top: cartridge art for an unauthorized copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 for the Famicom. The artwork is an edited version of the Japanese box art (bottom left) with Mario being replaced by a Blooper wearing a wizard hat. A close-up of the Blooper is provided in the bottom right.

Frame from a 1991 instructional video sent to Nintendo retailers about how to set up an informational Mario stand-up display. Despite the video being 15 minutes long, the display is unfortunately never seen in full, with this frame providing the best look.

In the Super Mario Maker games, Mario can enter doors one tile off the ground by standing on a Rocky Wrench's head in the New Super Mario Bros. style, but not in any others since the Rocky Wrenches there are a few pixels shorter. Winged Rocky Wrenches can be used in all styles.

In Paper Mario, Albino Dinos are NPCs that are encountered only in one room in the Crystal Palace as part of a puzzle (top left). However, the game's data contains a fully functional unused enemy encounter with them. The Tattle and attack animation are provided below.

Japanese toy of Winnie the Pooh dressed in an outfit strongly resembling Wario's. While it appears to be a licensed Disney product, the packaging indicates no Nintendo license, meaning that the Wario reference is unauthorized.
