A widespread problem with GBA ports was that the system had no backlight, resulting in dark areas needing to be brightened. The Donkey Kong Country 3 GBA prototype overcompensated for this on the Floodlit Fish level, causing the glowing fish to be blindingly bright.

Due to the resemblance of the word "sumario" (Spanish for "summary") to the phrase "Super Mario", the Chilean Club Nintendo magazine sometimes styled the word "sumario" in its table of contents after logos of various Super Mario games.

Mario, Wario, Yoshi and Donkey Kong each have their own franchises within a larger Mario-related body of work. Games exist that are named after each of these characters; coincidentally, none of them are playable in the games that are named after them.

Paper Mario: The Origami King features a place called Shroom City, which is reached via a boot-shaped car. Mario Party Advance also has a Shroom City, traversed by boot-shaped car. As Mario Party games are not usually referenced outside the series, this could be a coincidence.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, there is a starving family in Twilight Town who ask Mario for food. However, they are picky and reject a variety of food items (middle) by saying "I don't think that's edible." Despite this, they will happily eat dried flowers (right).

The official Japanese site for WarioWare, Inc: Mega Microgames features details about the game's vehicles, including one that has not appeared in-game in the series thus far: under the hood of Dribble and Spitz's taxi is a prairie dog responsible for navigation (right, circled).

In Yoshi's Island, it is impossible to see the sprite of Yoshi entering a door without Baby Mario obscuring his back unless severe glitches that may corrupt the cartridge are used. I have taken rare existing footage and recreated it with Green Yoshi using extracted sprite parts.

Pauline is the only major Mario series character to have two different sets of proportions in modern games: a tall one used in Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and a short one used everywhere else. Below is a comparison between the two.

In New Super Mario Bros. U/Deluxe, standing still near one of the small yellow butterflies will make it land on the character. For the Toads and Luigi, the butterfly will land on their mouths; for Mario, it will land on his nose. The butterfly will never land on Nabbit.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Chauncey's crib can be seen in the Luigi's Mansion stage. On the underside of the crib is a Boo face. It is not present under the crib in the original game, and is in fact the texture for the Boo Ball item that seems to have been imported by mistake.

Knucklotec, the boss of the Sand Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey, wears an elaborate crown made of ice (left). In Snapshot Mode, the Coin filter ignores certain objects, like water, fire and ice. With this filter, we can see what Knucklotec looks like without his crown (right).

The manual for Super Mario World states that Yoshi was named after Yoshi's Island, and not, as usually assumed, the other way around. This raises the question of how Yoshi's Island got its name originally.

In Mario Party 5, if the Coney Island minigame is played perfectly (usually only possible if the other players do nothing), a stack of 13 scoops can be achieved, which is too tall to fit on screen (left). The full stack can only be seen when it shrinks down in the ending (right).

A 1985 print ad for the Nintendo VS. System, a multi-game Nintendo arcade hardware, features 15 pictures of Mario with different appearances showcasing the various games. For "VS. Ladies Golf", a golf game with only female characters, a unique design of Mario as a woman is shown.

In Super Mario 64, the door in the mirror room in Peach's Castle is not reflected properly. Both the real door and the door in the mirror have their handles on the same side. The game attempts to mask this by putting the doors in alcoves below the floor, making this hard to see.

I am devastated to inform you that the relative that was in my care for the last months has passed away earlier today. Please understand that I will be unable to make new posts for some time as I deal with the situation. I am very sorry.

The Bob-omb next to the cannon on Bob-omb Battlefield in Super Mario 64 has unique behavior. It will ignore Mario until he kills it. Upon respawning, it will get caught on a ledge, oscillate and walk off the cliff, whereupon it will ignore Mario again if he approaches it.

In Super Mario Advance 2, pressing Left and Select on the same frame while at Donut Plains 2 on the world map and then warping to Yoshi's House will take Mario to a version of the intro cutscene populated by glitched enemies, such as triangle-headed Super Koopas and a Rex Pokey.
