Whenever I make posts about New Donkers, the citizens of New Donk City in Super Mario Odyssey, many readers express amusement at the name and inquire whether it is terminology of my own invention. In fact, both the game and the Art of Super Mario Odyssey book use this term.

The Japanese version of Super Smash Bros. contains a debug screen with no known purpose, consisting only of several instances of Mario's name being mirrored and one instance of Samus's name, appearing as "MARЯAM MSAMUSM MARЯAM MARЯAM MAR".

In Hotel Mario, a peace symbol is displayed whenever Mario stomps an enemy. However, the symbol is so faint and disappears so quickly that this is nearly impossible to see without isolating a frame and heavily increasing the contrast (right).

Chaining together the world maps from Super Mario Bros. Deluxe creates a full map of the Mushroom Kingdom. While some connection points are choppy (shown with black arrows), others are completely seamless (red arrows), suggesting the map could have been intended to be continuous.

After the Game Boy Advance was announced in 2000, but its design not yet shown by Nintendo, Edge Magazine featured mockups of what they expected. Interestingly, the ideas of four face buttons and the ability to run Super Mario 64 ended up predicting the Nintendo DS instead.

A few days ago, I have posted about an unexplained glitch that results in characters assuming a T-pose in Mario Party 4. Since then, I have been researching the glitch and was able to reproduce it, as well as compile the steps needed for it to occur. Details below.

In Super Mario Bros. 3, it is possible to become trapped in this spot in Level 1-3. If Small Mario stops the Koopa shell after it breaks two blocks and falls down the opening, a hidden Note Block will stop him from jumping back out. Mario cannot escape until the timer runs out.

Mario Party 6 includes a debug mode, which can be accessed by modifying the game's files. Within it, a message check mode can be used to view all of the messages in the game. One message is unused; it is a short text box reading simply "k".

Please note that these manga are filled with jokes and eccentric theories such as this: twitter.com/MarioBrothBlog…, so this should be taken more as an interesting thought experiment than anything that would actually be endorsed by Nintendo!

In Super Mario 64 DS, a glitch can cause Yoshi to explode when shot out of a cannon. When entering a cannon with a Bob-omb in his mouth, Yoshi will be safe while inside the cannon and in mid-air, but will explode upon impact with the ground.

In New Super Mario Bros. U, platforms appear near Bramballs when approached, allowing them to move. However, by going back from a checkpoint, they may fail to appear, allowing Mario to get stuck under a Bramball. As it cannot be defeated from below, Mario's only option is to die.

An Easter egg in Super Mario RPG turns Mario into his sprite from Super Mario Bros. by walking behind a curtain. Removing the curtain reveals the sprite is already there, inert, from the beginning, and is "brought to life" by Mario fusing with it.

In the Bowser Land board in Mario Party 2, landing on a Bank Space forces a player to pay coins instead of receiving them. An extremely rare event will happen if a player lands on the space with 0 coins; in that case, Banker Baby Bowser will take an entire star from the player.

In Super Mario 3D World, jumping and swiping at a Cannon Box in Bowser's Bullet Bill Brigade in cat form can result in the character's head and arms seemingly disappearing. However, they are still there, only shrunk to a fraction of their size (note Toad's tiny head, right).

In Level 2-5 of Super Mario Bros. 3, it is possible to have a Super Mushroom follow Mario to the goal. If the Super Mushroom touches Mario after he leaves the screen, a headless Mario will briefly appear on the left side of the screen during the congratulation animation.
