The Toad-like early designs for Princess Toadstool (right) and her otherwise unseen parents (left), previously known to appear only in the "How To Win At Super Mario Bros." guide (top row), have been discovered to also appear in another, even earlier Japanese guide (bottom row).

The facial textures of Mario's model in Mario Kart 8/Deluxe appear to depict him with a pointy nose. The nose area is actually shading that is mapped underneath his mustache and is as such essentially unseen in-game.

In Super Mario Sunshine, during some missions, trees will grow when certain spots are cleared of Goop. If the camera is turned away as the tree appears, it will not grow to its full size, instead stopping when it is still small, as in the screenshot.

In the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 3, pressing Left and Right as Frog Mario at the same time may result in him turning into what looks like two small Luigis for a single frame (actually two small Marios recolored green; three consecutive frames shown).

Message found in the files of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. It is unknown whether this was intended solely for debugging or testing or whether some manner of error exists that would cause this to appear during regular gameplay.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the Shadow Queen's default form is only seen in cutscenes, where her body is bent and at an angle to the camera (left). By extracting her textures from the game, we can see what her body would look like if she was standing upright (right).

In Super Mario Odyssey, capturing a Tropical Wiggler in the Lost Kingdom and placing it on top of the Uncle amiibo robot will cause Uncle amiibo to rotate. By extending the Tropical Wiggler, it can be made to spin around at high speeds.

In Yoshi's Island, taking damage on the same frame as finishing a level causes Baby Mario to not be correctly relayed to the next Yoshi. The game will soft-lock as the left Yoshi will continue to cheer while the right Yoshi is stuck looking at Baby Mario's bubble indefinitely.

Whenever the playable Luigi looks at a point of interest in Super Mario Galaxy, his shoulder becomes dislocated. Modifying the game to view Luigi's skeleton, we can see this irregularity affects the skeleton model, as well.

In the intro to Wario World, Wario is shown reacting to his castle collapsing while being very far away from the camera. In order for his facial expression to still be visible despite the distance, his facial features are enlarged for this scene.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario's speed is very slightly, nearly imperceptibly, dependent on whether he is moving parallel or perpendicular to the camera. Jumping parallel to the camera makes him achieve 3.88% higher speed.

In the earliest Japanese revision of Super Mario 64 (fixed in later cartridges), talking to King Bob-omb, running away and then talking to him again will result in him slowly sliding towards Mario during his dialogue.

1996 promotional Donkey Kong sound plush, only given away in select Nintendo of Japan contests and never sold in stores. When squeezed, the plush plays the chest-beating sound that Donkey Kong makes when left idle in Donkey Kong Country.

Development data for Yoshi's Island includes a graphics file that contains four Yoshi heads, the first, second and fourth being identical and the third being miscolored. This was likely an attempt to create a palette-shifting animation that was abandoned partway through.

Super Mario RPG contains a debug menu called "UFUFU", accessible by modifying the game's code. The menu has three options, "MAGIC", "LASTER", and "BGLASTER". Selecting "LASTER" makes this Boo sprite appear, which changes between different distortions by pressing Left or Right.

Normally, whenever Mario dies in Super Mario Bros. 3, all moving objects freeze in place. However, Fire Piranha Plants are unique in that they are still partially active during this, continuing to turn their heads to look at Mario even during his death animation.

On the first floor of Peach's Castle in Paper Mario, there is a conspicuous lack of a door on the left of the stairs (circled in red). A door is actually present there, but painted over with a wall texture and its loading zone deactivated. Where it would have led to is unknown.

In Super Mario Maker 2, it is possible to create an invisible barrier on a slope that certain enemies (Wigglers, Goombrats, Spike Tops) cannot cross, by hiding a Mushroom Platform inside the slope in the manner shown in the footage.

In Snowman's Land in Super Mario 64, a coin is mistakenly placed inside a wall. However, by shooting Mario out of a cannon in a precise spot, it can still be collected (note the coin collecting sound and the coin counter increasing after Mario hits the wall).

The Pop & Win game in the World mode of Super Mario Maker 2 lets Mario pump with not just A, but also B, X and Y. This allows the game to be won faster by rotating the thumb across all four buttons. The footage compares button mashing (first try) to this technique (second try).

A highlight of the Art of Super Mario Odyssey book is providing examples of how Nintendo developers brainstorm concepts. One group of Cappy sketches showcases the idea that the brim of a hat looks duck-like evolving into an actual bird design.

In the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2, known internationally as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, the wind that blows in some levels is so strong that it can blow Mario through walls if he tries walking against it.

In Super Mario 64, if Mario destroys all bombs in a Bowser battle by jumping into them, Bowser will become essentially invincible as there will be no way left to harm him, requiring Mario to either die or exit the course. This was fixed in the DS version, where the bombs respawn.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, jumping down the well next to the Creepy Steeple with Vivian out briefly shows Vivian's body to be very elongated during the fall, before it is unloaded. By zooming out, we can see the full extent of Vivian's height during the scene.
