In a 2003 interview, Shigeru Miyamoto stated that he chose the sky color in the original Super Mario Bros. for being "purplish". This makes some versions of this sky in various games more accurate to his vision than others, depending on their hue. A comparison is provided below.

In Super Mario Sunshine, Yoshi dissolves when he enters water. In the last few frames before this, his model undergoes severe deformation whereby he curls up and his head and hands become larger. After the hands have grown to roughly half of Yoshi's size, he disintegrates.

The long Fire Bars in Super Mario Bros. have a blind spot directly to their sides where they will not hurt Mario. Almost all of them are placed so that Mario can not stand in that spot, except for this Fire Bar at the end of Level 8-4 in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.
