Unused early Big Boo sprite found in the data of Super Princess Peach. Due to only a sprite with a happy expression being present, this could possibly be a scrapped "Glad Big Boo" species. In the finished game, all Big Boos are non-emotional Big Boos or Mad Big Boos.

The Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia states that when Mario swims, he becomes "Aqua Mario". While the Super Mario Land 2 manual, where the term originates, states it is "one of Mario's many faces", the Encyclopedia lists it as a "power-up".

In Super Mario RPG, upon entering the Factory, unique sprites of the five party members are briefly shown falling into the darkness. Due to the sprites rotating during the cutscene, it is hard to get a good look at them. On the right are the sprites extracted from the data.

In the Moped Mayhem minigame in the Extras Zone in Mario Party 8, Whomp is one of the competitors. Although his arms are too short to reach his moped's handles, he is nevertheless able to steer simply by leaning into curves.

Luigi possessed by an evil spirit, from a Japanese Mario activity book. Although the book predates Super Paper Mario and its "Mr. L" role for Luigi, the same idea of mirroring the "L" emblem on Luigi's cap to indicate an abnormal antagonistic state is used.

A small detail that bookends the story in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is that the small treasure chest Peach opens in the game's intro is a miniature version of the treasure chest Professor Frankly shows Mario after defeating the final boss.

In the international versions of WarioWare: Smooth Moves, the R.O.B. fought at the end of the Star Fox boss microgame uses a gun modeled after the toy-like NES Zapper. In the Japanese version, however, the R.O.B. uses the more realistic-looking Famicom Beam Gun.
