In Super Mario 64, performing certain actions while above quicksand will cause Mario to experience a "remote quicksand death", where he will act as though he is being sucked into quicksand even though he is in mid-air.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it is possible to use glitches to have Flavio follow Mario throughout the entire game. In the cutscene after the final boss battle, Flavio and Mario's partner will occupy the same coordinates, creating one of the amalgams seen below.

The color change the beacon of the Comet Observatory in Super Mario Galaxy undergoes as it is powered up resembles the real-life color change of a star as it becomes hotter. As many parts of the game are based on real astronomic knowledge, this is very likely intentional.

I have attempted to restore an extremely rare render of Paratroopa from the Nintendo 64 version of Mario Tennis, which was only been published in low resolution in print media, and had part of its wings cut off. This version has intact wings and transparency.

The Baby Yoshi model used in New Super Mario Bros. U is not optimized for being seen from the front. The game attempts to mask this by only showing Baby Yoshis from the front very briefly when turning around, and from far away on the overworld map.

With immense amounts of grinding, it is possible to raise Mario's evasion rate in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door to 99.427%, making him nearly untouchable by enemy attacks. Details in image.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, standing next to an NPC on a ledge with Small Mario and High Jump selected, then pressing B, A and Right causes Mario to fall off and Luigi to become stuck on the ledge with an agonized expression, unable to move and forcing the game to be reset.

In Super Mario Sunshine, the areas of Isle Delfino are visible from other areas that have a clear line of sight to them, with one exception: Pianta Village and Bianco Hills are not mutually visible despite appearing close to each other when viewed from other points on the island.

Each microgame in WarioWare: Get It Together gives a numerical ranking from 1 (worst) to 5 (best) to each character's ability in it. By averaging their rankings in all 222 microgames, the characters can be sorted objectively by overall performance, with the rankings shown below.

There is an easily missed instance of artwork of Micro-Goombas in the Art of Super Mario Odyssey book, where three of them surround a sketch of a Goomba in a bonnet (right). Compare to their original height as seen in Super Mario Bros. 3 (left), these are exceptionally tiny.

Official Nintendo of Europe materials give each of the Yoshis in Yoshi's Island a name: Yoshi, Jonny, Sunny, Claudi, Eddi, Netty, Tommy and Marci. These are used both in the official guide for the game and Club Nintendo comics.

Nintendo of America's official soundtracks for Yoshi's Story and Diddy Kong Racing were released on CDs shaped like the characters' heads. The irregular shape made them impossible to play back on many players and CD drives, with some even becoming damaged by the CDs.

On the unlockable Brutal difficulty in Mario Party 6, computer opponents may gain an "unyielding resolve" to make a decision. If the desired option cannot be taken, the opponent will not reconsider and instead keep attempting to choose it forever, forcing the game to be reset.

At 1607x1533 pixels, this giant Blooper holding a "No" sign that blocks the ship's way in the Great Sea in Paper Mario: The Origami King is currently the largest individual sprite used across the entire Mario franchise.

The files for the E3 2011 demo of Super Mario 3D Land contain an original arrangement of the Kakariko Village theme from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, thereby making it technically a Mario-exclusive piece of Zelda music.

Unused "Cookie Yoshi" model found in the files of Yoshi's Woolly World. As it resembles the Kirby's Epic Yarn-style early Yoshi design for the game, this could have been a scrapped idea for a transformation whereby Yoshi would turn into a cookie.

In both Super Mario Galaxy games, Toads appear whose expressions do not match their intended moods. In Super Mario Galaxy (left), Toads smile when they're supposed to panic, and in Super Mario Galaxy 2 (right), they panic when they're supposed to celebrate.

In rooms with horizontally sliding blocks in Super Mario World, a glitch gives Mario's Cape Spin a special power. Performing a Cape Spin while getting an item from the reserve box will give an "area effect" to the spin, killing enemies that are further away from Mario.

In Paper Mario, there is a letter that Parakarry can deliver to Kolorado. An extremely obscure unique interaction occurs if the player waits until the precise moment when Kolorado is ran over by a Spiny Tromp and is writhing on the floor in pain to deliver the letter.

In Super Mario Galaxy, walking into this corner in the Honeyhive Galaxy while crouching and then jumping will cause Mario to be stuck in his jumping pose. As long as Z is held, Mario will slide around the ground in that pose instead of walking normally.
