I have previously posted about how Mario will talk in cutscenes in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door if no partners are present, however, he will only say an error message. I have since discovered that in this particular cutscene, Mario will in fact talk when Koops is unloaded.

In Level 6-Fortress 1 in Super Mario Bros. 3, if a Star is collected on the specific frame when Mario hits a coin block, Boom Boom (who is encountered in the next room) will die immediately upon seeing Mario, without even needing to be touched.

Due to the plot of WarioWare: Get It Together involving multiple nested games within games, it is possible at one point during its story mode to play a game within a game within a game within a game within a game. Details in image.

An officially licensed 2012 minifigure of Bowser from Japan has a production fault whereby Bowser's eyes are not aligned correctly, causing the figures to appear walleyed.

World Star-2 in the original version of Super Mario 3D World (left) contained no hidden Luigis. To rectify this, in the Nintendo Switch version, one was added inside Rosalina's crown (right). This can only be seen once per save file as she disappears after clearing the level.

In Super Mario 64, it is possible to sleep inside Bowser. Mario's post-damage blinking invincibility continues indefinitely while he is inside an enemy, and Bowser turns around in the same spot forever as long as Mario is inside his hitbox. After a while, Mario will fall asleep.

Development data for Super Mario World contains graphics for a Banzai Bill that is so large that it would have taken up almost the entire screen (left: finished game's Banzai Bill, right: mock-up of pre-release Banzai Bill).

The song "TEC's Waltz" from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, which plays when Peach dances with a hologram of herself, is actually a remix of Frédéric Chopin's 1847 Waltz in C-sharp minor, Opus 64, No. 2. Here, both tracks are played back to back.

Development data for Yoshi's Island includes a graphics file that contains four Yoshi heads, the first, second and fourth being identical and the third being miscolored. This was likely an attempt to create a palette-shifting animation that was abandoned partway through.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, the small icons used in various speech bubbles actually form an alphabet internally, which is translated into icons at runtime. Here is the full alphabet with sample message conversions.

Nintendo imposes very strict guidelines on licensees in terms of what Mario is allowed to do in artwork. However, a look at their own employee training manual reveals they do not adhere to these guidelines themselves.

In the GP mode of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, most characters will be given "rivals" that will perform better than the other drivers, chosen mostly due to some sort of relationship with the character. Here is a list of all rivalries. Curiously, Link, King Boo and Lakitu have no rivals.

In Super Mario World, climbing down this long rope in Cheese Bridge Area causes it to exhibit a "magnetic pull" on Mario. He will be pulled along with it even if he tries to walk away, and can only escape by applying enough force, such as by dashing.

In Super Mario 64, the Slide Kick gives Mario immunity to all ground hazards, allowing him to bounce off lava, icy water, and quicksand. However, this applies only to the first bounce. On the second bounce, Mario will be hurt or die as appropriate.

In the cutscene of Bowser Jr. greeting Mario before the final battle in Super Mario Galaxy, his eye animation becomes glitched, causing him to continuously keep blinking rapidly for the duration of the cutscene.

In Super Mario Maker 2, using a very specific setup depicted on the left, Toadette will lose her eyes during her victory animation. Despite this glitch being found in 2019, it has still not been patched and can be performed on the current version of the game.

In Mario Kart 8/Deluxe, certain features of the Wario's Gold Mine track appear to be built with a dangerous degree of negligence. As the game otherwise goes to great lengths to avoid these scenarios, it is possible this was done on purpose to show Wario's attitude towards safety.

A bizarre game crash occurs in the Japanese version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door where Mario must be twisted up to destroy a block. Twisting him up all the way works as intended, but attempting to save a little time by only twisting him up slightly crashes the game.

In Super Mario 64, it is possible to accidentally cause a glitch to occur that changes the appearance of a Bob-omb in Rainbow Ride into a butterfly. The butterfly still explodes. Details in image.

In Bowser's Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey, by rolling into the entrance of the Crazy Cap shop and throwing Cappy at a precise moment, Mario will treat the area in front of the door as an extension of the nearby bench and sit down in mid-air.

I have been informed that an alternate path exists in the mission that avoids the coin I presumed was mandatory. As such, this message is not impossible to see during regular gameplay, but merely extremely difficult. I hope the post is still acceptable.

In Super Mario Galaxy, there is a special message for getting 0 purple coins in the Dreadnought Galaxy that can not be seen during normal gameplay, as one coin is collected automatically and cannot be avoided. After hearing the message, Mario will die.
523
In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, if cheats are used to enter cutscenes without any partners, Mario will talk whenever the partners would normally have. However, due to not having any programmed dialogue, all he will say is "No messages.[English]".

In Luigi's Mansion 3, Peach has "eyes on the back of her eyes", i.e. an additional pair of irises on the back side of her eyeballs, looking inside her skull. Details in image.

This drawing was posted by Nintendo Land director Yoshikazu Yamashita on the game's Miiverse community, and was in fact the only post he ever made on his English account.
