Balloon Boos are rare enemies appearing in only one level in New Super Mario Bros. They are found in confined spaces where there is little incentive to use a Mega Mushroom, but if one is used to defeat them, an obscure animation of them flying away like a real balloon will play.

The Checkpoint Flag is usually an immovable fixture of levels. However, in Level 1-5 of New Super Mario Bros. U, a frozen Hammer Bro can be used to lift it and carry it around. Unfortunately, moving or destroying the flag does not change the point at which Mario respawns.

In Super Mario 3D World, the Blockstepper enemies are always seen wearing soldier hats; however, they are fully modeled underneath. By removing the hats in a model editor, we can see what a "civilian" Blockstepper would look like.

Unlicensed 2013 Cat Mario and Cat Toad plushes with uncharacteristically tall foreheads.

In Mario Party 4, if debug functionality is used to access the final Bowser minigame without selecting a character, the player will be assigned Mario stuck in a default pose. Bizarrely, Mario's default pose is not a T-pose, but a stance with his hands folded instead.

An extremely rare event may occur when walking through the front door of Big Boo's Haunt in Super Mario 64. A Boo laugh sound effect will play at a greatly reduced pitch, sounding much more like a human laugh.

A quiz from an officially licensed 2002 Burger King/Nintendo activity book reveals that Donkey Kong was born in the UK.

A 2009 international psychological study found that playing Super Mario Sunshine for as little as 20 minutes subsequently increased helpful behavior in test subjects, in contrast to "antisocial games" like Crash Twinsanity, which decreased helpful behavior.

A detail from Mario Kart 8 may reveal an aspect of power-ups in the Mario series. In that game, Tanooki Mario is lighter than Mario and Cat Peach is lighter than Peach. This implies that these power-ups help increase the users' agility by literally reducing their weight.

The Village Leader's Friend is a minor Yoshi NPC in Paper Mario. In-game, he always hides his hands. However, unused sprites of him showing his hands exist, revealing that he shares friendship bracelets with the Village Leader.

There is an unused stage in the files of Super Princess Peach that consists of a room filled with 256 Sad Goombas. As the game cannot handle displaying that many Sad Goombas at once, it immediately lags, and if enough time is spent with the Sad Goombas on screen, will crash.

In the Groovy level in Super Mario World, four Pokeys are lined up vertically on a set of ledges. By carefully adjusting their number of segments with Yoshi, when they fall down, they will overlap each other to create what is seemingly a Pokey made out of Pokey heads.

It is commonly known that in Cool, Cool Mountain in Super Mario 64, Mario can drop the two baby penguins off a cliff. However, by using exploits, it is possible to cause the two adult penguins to fall off cliffs as well, allowing Mario to dispose of all penguins in this manner.

In World 7-2 of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, if Mario is hurt by this Fire Bar, the red Koopa Troopa on the nearby platform will turn around and start walking backwards.

I do not collect merchandise because I prefer to invest my Mario-related budget into games and equipment that let me create more posts for the Supper Mario Broth sites, which I hope has been a good use of it! Thank you very much for your interest! Regular posting will now resume.

I have recently received inquiries about my personal collection of Mario merchandise. Below is a photo of all Mario merchandise I own. It is a single officially licensed 2011 keychain of a Wallop enemy from Super Mario 3D Land, which is of great sentimental value to me.

In the intro to Super Mario 3D World, Mario says "Ah, Princess, what a beautiful evening", which is drowned out by the music and fireworks. This footage first plays back the clip as seen in-game, and then again with all sounds except Mario's line muted.

The NES version of Mario's Time Machine contains sprites of historical figures in a Mario series style, most of them appearing as edits of Mario's sprite from Super Mario Bros. 2.

While many birthday celebrations are seen across the Mario series, very few of them had a date given alongside them. Here are the very few characters whose birthdays have been given specific dates in official or licensed sources.

In Super Mario Sunshine, holding a fruit makes Mario immune to Cheep Cheeps. The Cheep Cheep will actively try to hunt Mario down, but Mario will be intangible to it.

Extremely rare officially licensed 1992 Super Mario World Wiggler plush from Japan. This is the only plush of Wiggler that is based on his sprite, which has a round head, instead of his official artwork, which has prominent cheeks.

In Mario Kart Wii, the Battle menu shows two balloons and a coin. However, there are actually three balloons; one is simply 1/100 the size of the others. This is due to balloons always coming in threes and the developers deciding that shrinking it was easier than deleting it.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, all partners shrink by 8% of their height whenever Mario swaps them in. The only way to see the true height of a partner is to enter a room with that partner already out, or during cutscenes. Details in image.

In the Castle Grounds in Super Mario 64, if Mario performs a Long Jump towards a specific section of the fence near the waterfall, he will sit on the fence. Mario will continue sitting until either A is pressed or the Control Stick is wiggled enough to make him fall off.

I have previously posted about the (at the time) two distinct heights Pauline has had in various games. Since that post, a new Pauline model was introduced in Mario Golf: Super Rush that has yet another different height. Here are all models with their heights relative to Mario.
