In Super Mario 64 DS, all playable characters have their bodies and head modeled as two separate objects (shown on Wario). This can actually be seen in-game; after using a warp, for a few frames the character's body will be drawn in front of the head, showing they are separate.

I discovered what I believe to be an undocumented glitch in Super Mario Maker 2 that allows any course to be loaded with comments from any other course, effectively "transplanting" the comments. Details below. Please let me know of any previous documentation for proper crediting.

In the majority of 3D Mario games, Mario and Luigi's hat and hair are mutually exclusive, interchangeable parts of their models, never used together in the same scene. However, in Luigi's Mansion, there is a hair layer present underneath Luigi's hat in his main model.

The code for Super Mario World contains a level display mode where one of the background layers is made translucent, giving the settings a ghostly quality. The mode is fully functional and requires changing one byte per level to activate.

@Luminousplay The color is based on the time between obtaining the egg and Yoshi hatching. It changes in the order shown below and after 20 minutes, the cycle resets to the beginning. As such, all that is needed to obtain the correct color is a timer! Thank you very much for your inquiry!

In the files of Nintendo of America's official Mario website, the image depicting a Rocky Wrench calls it "Morty Wrench" instead. This may be a simple error; however, it could be an official name for Giant Rocky Wrenches that has simply not been used in a game before (see text).

In Super Mario Odyssey, when Mario is wearing the Diddy Kong Suit, his ears are noticeably larger. Instead of being modeled this way, the ears are dynamically adjusted by the engine. Diddy Kong Mario's model contains "ear bones" (unique to this model) which are scaled up by 139%.

In Super Mario Bros. 35, a glitch allows courses that have not yet been unlocked to be selected. If Down and A are pressed on the same frame, the course below the currently selected one will be chosen, even if it is not unlocked yet. Note how I select 5-2 and 6-2 is then chosen.

During the second mission of Pounce Bounce Isle in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, a "Phantom Blockstepper" event can occur. If one of these Blocksteppers falls off the ledge, it will become glitched and continuously materialize and dematerialize out of existence.

Knucklotec, the boss of the Sand Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey, wears an elaborate crown made of ice (left). In Snapshot Mode, the Coin filter ignores certain objects, like water, fire and ice. With this filter, we can see what Knucklotec looks like without his crown (right).

Frame from a 1991 instructional video sent to Nintendo retailers about how to set up an informational Mario stand-up display. Despite the video being 15 minutes long, the display is unfortunately never seen in full, with this frame providing the best look.

In Mario Kart 7, the Lakitu driver's right hand is always open, while his left hand is always a fist. This can be seen in-game during his hurt animation (top). The reason for this is that he reuses the NPC Lakitu model, whose left hand is closed to hold the fishing rod (bottom).

In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, a glitch can be used to sell any item for the regular selling price of any other (potentially much more expensive) item, allowing immense amounts of profit to be made. Details in image.

In Paper Mario: The Origami King, if Mario hits a Snow Spike just as the snowball is about to hit him (left), then flees from the ensuing battle, both Mario and the Snow Spike will be gone completely upon returning (right). Since Mario is gone, the game must be reset to continue.

Donkey Kong Country is the most underground-focused platformer in the greater Mario franchise, with 21 out of its 40 levels taking place in some sort of cave or mine. Despite featuring many sewers, no platformers starring Mario have such a high percentage of underground levels.

The trailer for Super Mario Maker 2's 2.0 update features white birds flying away from the Master Sword. This may be a reference to the box art of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, depicting a similar scene (exclusive to the box; the birds are not present in-game).

A bizarre game crash occurs in the Japanese version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door where Mario must be twisted up to destroy a block. Twisting him up all the way works as intended, but attempting to save a little time by only twisting him up slightly crashes the game.

The Toad Shop in Super Princess Peach includes a small "description box" on the bottom of the screen (left). However, it seems to serve no purpose as the description of each of the 33 items sold in the shop is "[name of item], that's what that is!"

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, if a Dark Lakitu is tattled, Goombella will talk about it "throwing pipes" even though it never does so. It actually throws Spiny Eggs, which are called パイポ ("Paipo") in Japanese; the translator mistook this for the English word "pipe".
