In Super Paper Mario, Count Bleck never removes his top hat (left). However, by unloading the texture for the hat, we can see what he would look like without it (right). Removing the hat also makes it clearer that his visible eye and monocle are slightly misaligned.

The Super Smash Bros. series contains weight values for all fighters. By examining the changes to those values throughout the games, we can see which characters have lost or gained weight over time. Below is the weight history of all Mario-related fighters.

The WarioWare series was created out of the development team's low opinion of Wario's intelligence. According to Yoshio Sakamoto, producer of most WarioWare games, the reason the games feature Wario is because he "is always doing stupid things and is really idiotic".

Underside of a Nintendo Switch analog stick (extracted from a Joy-Con) received back from Nintendo of America after refurbishing. These are marked with a stamp of Mario wearing a bow tie after being repaired to distinguish them from units that have not been faulty in the past.

For unknown reasons, if some minigames in Mario Party 4 are accessed without selecting a character, the game loads them with glitched instances of Daisy instead of Mario, as expected. Below are some examples of Daisy's unusual behavior.

In Level 6-Fortress 1 in Super Mario Bros. 3, if a Star is collected on the specific frame when Mario hits a coin block, Boom Boom (who is encountered in the next room) will die immediately upon seeing Mario, without even needing to be touched.

Development data for Yoshi's Island includes a graphics file that contains four Yoshi heads, the first, second and fourth being identical and the third being miscolored. This was likely an attempt to create a palette-shifting animation that was abandoned partway through.

In Mario Party 3, computer-controlled opponents can be "baited" into stealing relatively low-value items to prevent them from stealing valuable items. All characters have a "favorite item" they cannot resist stealing, forcing them to waste their stealing items. Details in image.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it is possible to use glitches to have Flavio follow Mario throughout the entire game. In the cutscene after the final boss battle, Flavio and Mario's partner will occupy the same coordinates, creating one of the amalgams seen below.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the background of the Battleship Halberd Interior stage of Subspace Emissary contains panels with extremely small labels. Although the textures are very blurry, extracting them shows there are two labels reading "Mario", one "Peach" and one "Luigi".

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga+Bowser's Minions, a portrait of Fawful was added to Woohoo Hooniversity that was absent in the original. This adds to Fawful's backstory by suggesting he went to, and was a notable graduate of, the Hooniversity to have his portrait in the halls.

The Binoculars in Super Mario Odyssey do not visibly gain Mario's eyes when captured; however, the eyes are actually present under the opaque lenses, just not visible. The Art of Super Mario Odyssey book also shows the eyes, meaning they were covered up during development.

Last September, I posted about the leg count difference between the official art of Wiggler from Super Mario RPG (top left) and his sprite (bottom left). As it turns out, the sprite is instead based on rare scrapped pre-release art, seen in the British Superplay magazine (right).

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door contains an early graphic for the rock thrown by the audience, where it was a brick instead. This was likely changed due to the brick being more realistic than a cartoon rock, appearing more violent. Below is the brick reinserted into the game.

On the first floor of Peach's Castle in Paper Mario, there is a conspicuous lack of a door on the left of the stairs (circled in red). A door is actually present there, but painted over with a wall texture and its loading zone deactivated. Where it would have led to is unknown.

To this day, any meaning or etymology of the name "Lakitu" is completely unknown. It seems to have been made up without explanation for the US manual for Super Mario Bros. Below is a chart of the history of Lakitu's name across different languages.
