Normally, getting hit while on Yoshi in Super Mario World will not harm Mario. However, there are three very specific exceptions: a Dino Torch's flames (not the Dino Torch itself), a Mega Mole on flat ground (not on slopes), and eating a Wiggler at high speed (safe at low speed).

In the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros., the "Bowser defeated" scene can be played at any time by setting a single byte of memory. However, manually playing it outside of castle levels only prints half of the message, reading "THANK YO BUT OUR PRI ANOTHER CAS".

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the Shadow Queen's default form is only seen in cutscenes, where her body is bent and at an angle to the camera (left). By extracting her textures from the game, we can see what her body would look like if she was standing upright (right).

In Super Mario 64 DS, performing a Slide Kick on the Cool, Cool Mountain slide and falling off the edge will seemingly cause Mario to disappear, but actually warp him high into the air instead. Mario will float in mid-air in that pose until A is pressed, whereupon he will die.

The Nintendo World Championships 1990 were conducted using a custom NES cartridge containing minigames based on, among others, Super Mario Bros. This is one of the few known surviving cartridges that was recently auctioned; due to their rarity, they are valued at over $5000 each.

The long Fire Bars in Super Mario Bros. have a blind spot directly to their sides where they will not hurt Mario. Almost all of them are placed so that Mario can not stand in that spot, except for this Fire Bar at the end of Level 8-4 in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.

Development data for Super Mario 64 contains an early version of MIPS the rabbit, which was colored pink. Unlike the finished game's MIPS, this version had the uncanny-looking ability to turn its head backwards 180 degrees, similar to an owl, to see Mario approaching from behind.
