The creators of the North American print ad for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door were given a version of the game's map that contained spoilers. However, by cleverly rotating, cropping, and placing Mario in front of it, they were able to hide most of the spoiler locations.

In Super Mario World, if Mario slides down a slope into a trampoline, he will be launched upward while still in his sitting position. As Cape Mario, he can glide down for a significant amount of time while appearing to sit in mid-air.

In the Mystery of the Monkey Cage star in Tall, Tall Mountain in Super Mario 64, the Ukiki is nowhere to be found after the cage breaks. Viewing the impact frame by frame shows the monkey is still there up until the cage hits the floor, whereupon it explodes alongside the cage.

The song "TEC's Waltz" from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, which plays when Peach dances with a hologram of herself, is actually a remix of Frédéric Chopin's 1847 Waltz in C-sharp minor, Opus 64, No. 2. Here, both tracks are played back to back.

In Super Mario Bros., if Left and Right are pressed simultaneously in underwater levels (possible with third-party controllers), the bottom left part of Mario's body will become glitched. If Mario is powered up, he will appear to have three legs.

In Super Mario 64, the middle Tiny-Huge Island painting is merely decorative. However, in Super Mario 64 DS, looking at it from the side reveals that it is covering a white square used internally by warp paintings, suggesting it was planned to be a warp painting at some point.

A Mario reference was made in episode 270 of the Doctor Who TV series, where the Doctor describes a situation with "it's like Super Mario figuring out what's going on, deleting himself from the game because he's sick of dying."

In the sixth mission of Sirena Beach in Super Mario Sunshine, "Scrubbing Sirena Beach", the goop covering the level is shaped like a Boo. Due to a lack of high vantage points in the level, it is difficult to see this in-game.

In Yoshi's Island, touching a Fuzzy makes Yoshi "get dizzy", i.e. distorts the screen. This can be taken beyond the confines of the level. If Start and Select are pressed on the frame where Yoshi touches the Fuzzy, the map screen will be affected with a mosaic censor effect.

In Super Mario Bros., Hammer Bros. leave their positions and start charging Mario if they are on screen for 70 time units. This can be used in 7-1 to trick them into self-destructing; by waiting to the left of this pit, the Hammer Bros. will eventually approach Mario and fall in.

One of the credits images in Wario Land 4 depicts Wario holding a robot (left). Extracting it from the data (middle), we can see it is actually an extremely specific reference to a piece of art from the manual for Virtual Boy Wario Land (right); note the nearly identical hands.

In Super Mario Odyssey, when Mario is wearing the Diddy Kong Suit, his ears are noticeably larger. Instead of being modeled this way, the ears are dynamically adjusted by the engine. Diddy Kong Mario's model contains "ear bones" (unique to this model) which are scaled up by 139%.

In New Super Mario Bros., if Mario uses a Mega Mushroom in the Mega Goomba boss fight room and touches it in mid-air, the Goomba will stroll in from the right of the screen in mid-air as well. By touching it in different points in the room, the Goomba's elevation will change.

In Yoshi's Island, if Yoshi deals the final hit to Hookbill the Koopa before he hits the ground, Yoshi will shoot up into the sky at an extremely high velocity. The boss defeat cutscene will play out and the level will end without Yoshi ever coming down.

In the Look Away minigame in Mario Party 2, whenever one of the team players fails to look in a different direction from the single player, their head will shrink. While unlikely, it is possible to fail 5 times, causing the head to be minuscule (see DK to the left of Mario).

Front and back cover illustrations from a Japanese guide for Super Mario World, featuring original designs for Princess Peach's outfit and Yoshi. Note that Yoshi is missing a shoe in the second image; this is due to him losing the shoe during the events illustrated in the book.

The packaging of the licensed "Radio Boy", a Game Boy-shaped radio, features artwork of an Eerie, a ghost enemy from Super Mario World, listening to the device. Unlike the Eeries in the game, this one is colorful, as though it was not a ghost, but rather still alive.
