In Super Mario Maker 2, it is possible to permanently add more power-up options to the menu that is displayed when the playable character is tapped in the Course Maker mode, by dragging one of the wearable shells onto the character while still in the editor. Details below.

Paper Mario: The Origami King is extremely wasteful with its graphics, saving many needless duplicates. For example, each Shy Guy color has its own "blank" version saved as a separate image file despite being identical to each other, with none of them even ending up being used.

An extremely rare event may occur when walking through the front door of Big Boo's Haunt in Super Mario 64. A Boo laugh sound effect will play at a greatly reduced pitch, sounding much more like a human laugh.

The AI of the Wiggler boss in Super Mario 64 is extremely rudimentary. It turns in a large circle, but if Mario stops inside that circle, the Wiggler will perpetually continue making the same turn without correcting itself even though it will never hit Mario.

In Super Mario World, if Mario touches a reserve power-up on the same frame Yoshi touches a berry, the game will stop responding to input while Mario enters an endless color cycling animation. He is actually quickly cycling through being Mario, Luigi, Fire Mario and Fire Luigi.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Mario can perform a small spin by pressing A directly after catching Cappy in mid-air. During this animation, there is exactly one frame where both Cappy and Mario's regular hat model exist simultaneously, giving him the appearance of wearing two hats.

Earthworm Jim Special Edition for the Sega CD contains an unauthorized Donkey Kong appearance. If the game is paused and the secret code Down + C, B, A, A, A, A, B, C, B, A, A, A, A, A, B, C is entered, Jim will wear a mask of Donkey Kong with an arrow through his head.

In Super Mario 64, if Mario lands precisely on the edge of the floating island in Cool, Cool Mountain, he will teleport down to the level's death barrier. As Mario is immune to death while in his "recovering from snow" animation, he will first finish it before instantly dying.

In Virtual Boy Wario Land, the levels are connected via an elevator. If at the start of a level, the player immediately goes back down to a previous level, then up, then down, then back up, Wario will give the camera a disturbed look, as though questioning the player's actions.

The data for Super Mario Strikers contains prototype models of the characters used in an early build of the game. Unlike the finished models, the prototypes each have only one facial expression. While all other characters have a neutral expression, Luigi's model appears angry.

During his award animation in Mario Power Tennis, Yoshi accidentally eats Luigi. This is only shown from the side. Here is what Yoshi looks like from the front one frame after eating Luigi.

In Paper Mario: Color Splash, there is an extremely obscure interaction that happens if Mario has no usable cards when Roy covers him with yellow paint, whereby Mario will hit Roy with a stick while dancing.

In Mario Party 7, Mario uses a larger than usual texture for his irises during the Ghost in the Hall minigame, presumably since he is scared (left: normal irises, right: during the minigame). Due to the split screen, this is hard to see without increasing the internal resolution.

Panel from an official 2006 Super Princess Peach manga. In order to win Toad Shot, a minigame where the player must originally defeat enemies by touching them with the stylus, Peach produces a machine gun to shoot them faster. She is saying "まかせて!", or "Leave it to me!"

I apologize for deleting this post earlier. An extremely minor mathematical error was discovered; please accept this corrected version. The probability is 0.0000000000000000000000000007% instead of 0.0000000000000000000000000005% as originally claimed.

In Super Mario Galaxy, if Mario performs a Ground Pound at the boundary of sand and water, he will close his eyes and keep them closed until the next time he jumps, spins or comes to a stop. As long as he moves without stopping, Mario can keep his eyes closed indefinitely.

In the intro to WarioWare Gold, Penny is seen picking up a giant pink phone receiver (top). The phone is never seen in-game again, making it a one-off joke. However, a post-release animation on Nintendo of Japan's YouTube channel finally shows the phone in full (bottom).

All known artwork of the extremely rare "Stop Watch" character, an animate version of the Stop Watch item designed by Nintendo of America for Super Mario Bros. 2. It only appeared in concept art, on greeting cards, and in one issue of the Valiant Mario comic.

During normal gameplay, the sign above Mario's house in Paper Mario reads "Mario". During the credits, this changes to "Mario's"; however, the texture is cut off; extracting it from the data shows the full texture reads "Mario's L". It is unclear what the L could stand for.

Shy Guy eating a bomb from a Valiant Nintendo Comics System comic. This is one of the few times Shy Guy's teeth are visible.

In Chapter 2-3 of Super Paper Mario, Mario must pay off a 1,000,000 Rubee debt. The intended solution is to take them from a safe; however, it is possible to earn them legitimately, which would at maximum speed take 9 hours, 33 minutes and 54 seconds. Calculation in image.

In Paper Mario: TTYD, some audience members in the Glitz Pit use normal NPC models (left) while most use crowd models (right). Due to the low resolution of the latter, the female Toads' smile is distorted to a line, making them appear less happy than the high-resolution Toads.

Artwork of "Small Penguin Mario" from a recurring segment in the British Official Nintendo Magazine. Since Small Penguin Mario does not actually exist in the games, the artwork was created by splicing together renders from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

A common Super Mario 64 urban legend is that it is possible for Dorrie to eat Mario, based on an in-game sign saying "Don't become his lunch". While that is not possible, Mario can in fact be harmed by Dorrie by diving into its neck at a very precise angle, becoming squashed.
