If the same naming principle applied to Waluigi as to Wario, whereby the first character of Luigi's name is flipped and then pronounced as a letter (as suggested by his Γ emblem), then his name should have been "Guigi". Details in image.

The final Super Mario World manga, released in 1992, takes place after the events of Super Mario World. Here, Yoshi has officially become part of the Mario Bros. and has received his own yellow cap with a "Y" emblem. Unfortunately, no such cap has ever appeared in any games.

This drawing was posted by Nintendo Land director Yoshikazu Yamashita on the game's Miiverse community, and was in fact the only post he ever made on his English account.

In Super Mario Sunshine, when Mario enters the shade of a structure, he will wipe the sweat from his forehead. However, the animation has no cooldown timer, meaning that Mario will wipe his sweat after performing any action, no matter how minor, appearing perpetually exhausted.

In Super Mario 64, the Slide Kick gives Mario immunity to all ground hazards, allowing him to bounce off lava, icy water, and quicksand. However, this applies only to the first bounce. On the second bounce, Mario will be hurt or die as appropriate.

In the final battle in Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Kersti turns into a sticker and warns Mario not to sell her at a shop. Normally, this is impossible; however, modifying the code to take Kersti to a shop, it is revealed that a set price is coded for her: she is worth 15 coins.

The Mario is Missing print ad campaign is notable for creating a mood dissonance by consistently including a picture of Mario holding up a victory sign next to statements indicating how much peril he is in.

In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, the model for Luigi seen on the bottom screen is only seen head-on. This allowed the developers to take a shortcut by only modeling his body while the face is a collection of 2D textures that gives the illusion of 3D.

Due to a shading issue creating a sharp line of contrast below their facial textures, Toads in Super Mario Galaxy appear to have double chins.

It is commonly remarked that the box art for Super Mario Bros. shows Mario moments before his death due to falling into lava. However, there is one spot in the game where a similar situation can occur with Mario surviving the jump; the art could be a stylized depiction of this.

In January 2021, an error at Walmart caused an accidental price swap between the $70 Wario eShop card and the $50 Bowser card, causing the Wario card to briefly become "free money" while making the Bowser card a rip-off. A few customers were able to buy the cards at that price.

The official Japanese guide for Super Mario RPG contains artwork of various clothing items, however, the artwork depicts just the clothing and not the character actually wearing it. I have created mock-ups of Mario wearing his various outfits by pasting his body onto the clothes.

In the 2020 Nintendo recruitment book, Luigi is seen playing the upright bass (left). This is continuous with the Super Mario 3D World soundtrack booklet, where he also plays it (middle, right). It is possible that playing the upright bass is now part of Luigi's characterization.

New findings have revealed that an unused object from Super Mario 64, which has for decades been presumed to be a Yoshi egg, was actually Hoot the Owl's egg instead. It is possible that it was removed to not confuse or disappoint players who expected the egg to contain Yoshi.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate includes new high-resolution versions of artwork of Mario franchise characters in its Spirits mode. The character benefiting the most from this is Don Bongo from Yoshi's Story, whose previous largest resolution was 114x118 and is now 566x578 pixels.

Earlier this year, I posted about random vaguely ominous messages that may appear when Super Mario World crashes, such as "Illusion lies ahead". Since then, more examples of such messages have been discovered.

In both Super Mario Galaxy games, Toads appear whose expressions do not match their intended moods. In Super Mario Galaxy (left), Toads smile when they're supposed to panic, and in Super Mario Galaxy 2 (right), they panic when they're supposed to celebrate.

The European version of Personal Trainer: Walking for the Nintendo DS contains obscure official Mario and Luigi Miis seen only when achieving 100% completion. Below are the steps to recreate them on the Nintendo Switch. QR codes for other consoles will follow in a reply.

The Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 3 uses the widely available Comic Sans MS typeface instead of trying to match the original typefaces when remaking both official art and in-game assets. Left: original SNES version, right: GBA remake.

In the Super Mario Galaxy games, causing the camera to clip into a Chain Chomp reveals that while its body is not rendered when viewed from inside, its face is. This results in the Chain Chomp's face seemingly floating in space in the manner depicted.
