Entering Snapshot Mode in Super Mario Odyssey while performing various moves shows that Mario's nose bounces in response to his movement. Falling from a great height (left) and bouncing off a trampoline (right) reveals the maximum extent of the deformation applied to the nose.

In the demo version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, found on a 2004 multi-game demo disc, the X-Nauts are called "Boomer Gangers" when tattled. No other text related to X-Nauts is present, but this suggests the entire organization was going to be called the "Boomer Gang".

Near the end of Bowser's Star Reactor in Super Mario Galaxy, Bowser falls from the sky and starts attacking Mario. Moving the camera, we can see that off-screen, Bowser waits in a T-pose on the tower, then jumps up. Only after this does the camera show him falling down.

The data for Super Mario Strikers includes a text file called flushfile.txt, which contains nothing but the word "flush".

In one cutscene in Super Mario Galaxy, Rosalina asks Mario to look at the circle by his feet. However, he never does, instead continuing to look at her. While Rosalina's words are intended mostly for the player, this has the humorous side effect of making Mario appear rude.

A debug build of Wario Land 4 was found that allows the player to deform Wario's sprite in the intro cutscene with button inputs. Interestingly, if Wario is made too wide, the cutscene will never end, with Wide Wario simply jogging in place forever.

Reader-submitted artwork of Sonic being shackled in Yoshi's basement, from the British N-Force magazine.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Mario has drastically different expressions when climbing up a pole compared to climbing down. When climbing up, Mario is visibly happy. However, when climbing down, his joy suddenly turns to anger.

In Super Mario Galaxy, the bottom of the cave in Boo's Boneyard Galaxy contains piles of skeletons (left). These are actually multiple instances of the model for Mario's own skeleton, seen in-game when he is hit with electricity (right).

The oldest existing Princess Peach figurine, released in Japan in 1985. It was commissioned using only the original box art for Super Mario Bros. as a reference.

The high-polygon model for Mario's mustache, seen in the pause menu of Super Mario Odyssey. With 814 triangles, it is nearly as complex as Super Mario 64 Mario's entire model, which had 838 triangles.
362
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story contains unused sprites of Mario being pressed into the shape of a key. Luigi would have needed to carry Mario on his head in this form, presumably to then insert him into a lock somewhere.
363
In Super Mario 64, if Mario collects a 100 coin star above water while spinning, he will return to regular movement during the star collection scene. However, his spinning is not stopped, but merely suspended. Mario will finish spinning after the save prompt.

After Pinna Park is unlocked in Super Mario Sunshine, Yellow Toad is missing from Delfino Plaza. He is still present in the sewers, out of bounds, with a unique message. As he is standing on the death plane, Mario dies while talking to Yellow Toad, as seen in the screenshot.

Designs for unlicensed amiibo reproduction cards using NFC chips to simulate amiibo functionality. To avoid copyright issues, the cards use artwork that merely resembles the character of the original amiibo instead of outright depicting it.

In Super Mario 64, if Mario catches Bowser in mid-air after he jumps back into the arena and then throws him into a bomb, the explosion will send Bowser flying offscreen. Despite this violent reaction, Bowser will not actually lose HP and continue as though nothing happened.

In Mario Party, if computer-controlled characters have 99 Stars (usually requiring cheats) and visit Boo, they will attempt to steal another Star, but that option will be greyed out. Despite this, the character will fruitlessly attempt to select it forever, softlocking the game.

World Star-2 in the original version of Super Mario 3D World (left) contained no hidden Luigis. To rectify this, in the Nintendo Switch version, one was added inside Rosalina's crown (right). This can only be seen once per save file as she disappears after clearing the level.

With immense amounts of grinding, it is possible to raise Mario's evasion rate in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door to 99.427%, making him nearly untouchable by enemy attacks. Details in image.

In Super Mario 64, Mario can recover air underwater by collecting coins. A Super Mario 64 manga explains that Mario breaks open the coins, which are filled with air, and inhales it. (I have rearranged the panels into a Western left-to-right reading order.)

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, whenever Mario grabs onto a ledge, his hat moves up slightly, revealing that his head is not modeled past his forehead. It is possible to zoom in on the gap and see the inside of Mario's hat through the empty space in his head.

In Super Mario Odyssey, the cliffs in the Seaside Kingdom appear to be stratified rock from a distance. However, upon extremely close inspection, they are revealed to be made of cork, fitting the kingdom's sparkling water theme. This is also confirmed by the internal filenames.

Doors of Doom is a completely luck-based minigame in Mario Party 4 that is home to some of the most absurdly low probabilities in a Mario game. The chance of getting the highest possible score is less than 1 in 1 billion, or 0.00000009%. Details in image.

In the vast majority of his appearances, the default pose of Petey Piranha's model has a slightly open mouth, similar to how his appears when idling. However, for unknown reasons, in Mario Kart: Double Dash his default pose has him open his mouth extremely wide.

The final section of the digital manual for Paper Mario: Color Splash, titled "Secret Stuff", contains photos of the real-life steak that the development team prepared and scanned in to create the texture for the Steak mini-boss in Chapter 5.
