The code for the Super Mario Galaxy games contains many misspellings that are a combination of incorrect transliteration from Japanese and typographical errors, resulting in words like "durt", "leef", "boby", etc. Details in image.

Out of the recurring female human characters in the Mario series, only Daisy regularly has teeth. This affects both official art and in-game models; in the vast majority of cases, Peach, Rosalina and Pauline simply have no teeth modeled inside their mouths.

Original CGI animation made for a 2006 Taiwanese TV news report about the release of the Nintendo Wii. Mario bursts into a room with children playing the GameCube and kicks it away while presenting them with a Wii Remote to illustrate Nintendo's focus on the new system.

In Super Mario 64 DS, it is possible to cause the Chill Bully boss to self-destruct by making it stand on a crate. This disables its self-preservation AI, causing it to walk off the edge of the arena and die.

The 1991 Nintendo Power calendar contained this "Welcome to the Warp Zone" illustration, featuring an original Mario render. As the illustration is printed across two pages, I have retouched the scan to unify it into a mostly seamless image.

In Super Mario 64, there is a specific spot near the top of Tall, Tall Mountain where failing to grab a ledge will result in Mario comically falling down the entirety of the mountain while hitting every ledge on the way down.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door contains an extremely difficult-to-catch piece of foreshadowing that requires a player to go out of the way to visit an area ahead of time and look for a discrepancy in partner comments that reveals that one of them knows more than the others.

The internal filenames of Power Moons and all related objects in Super Mario Odyssey use the word "shine" to refer to them instead. This could imply that at least at the beginning of the game's development, Mario was intended to collect Shine Sprites instead. Details in image.

According to a 1996 Super Mario 64 interview, the developers consider the Sweep Kick move to be "useless" as it was originally intended to deal with enemies that were too short to punch. In the finished game, all enemies that can be Sweep Kicked can also be punched.

In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, whenever Mario runs for a few seconds, he will shift into a slightly faster speed. During this, there is a 1/18 chance of his animation becoming glitched so that he rotates his leg 360° through his body.

For the US commercial for Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, 48 seconds of live-action footage of child/adolescent Mario and Luigi were prepared, but only 21 were actually used in the finished version. Below is the entirety of the footage, including the 27 seconds of deleted scenes.

Donkey Kong 64 contains an obscure hint function that is ostensibly intended to help players who fail to make progress in any specific level. However, the requirements to activate it are absurd, such as pausing the game 1501 times in a row or crouching for 4 hours straight.

In Super Mario Bros., some enemies can be turned into others when hit from below while 14 to 18 pixels away from the left edge of the screen. A Goomba will turn into a dead red Koopa Troopa; however, a Spiny will turn into a green Koopa Troopa and remain alive in its new form.

Development files for Yoshi's Island contain a single crude sketch, likely a very early scrapped concept, for a Baby Toad. Interestingly, although many Mario series characters have received baby forms since, there has never been a Baby Toad.

In Super Mario Party, if the player tilts the Control Stick very slighty directly after exiting a pipe, the player character will slide on the ground instead of walking. With Joy-Con drift, this effect even has a chance of happening without any player input.

In Super Mario Odyssey, there is a giant piece of meat that Mario can capture in the Luncheon Kingdom. The game never explains what animal it comes from; however, the Art of Super Mario Odyssey book answers this question: the meat belongs to a T-Rex.

The reddest that Mario's shirt and hat have ever been was in Super Mario 64, where they were the hex color FF0000, the purest red representable on a screen. All Mario sprites and models before and after this used various less pure shades of red.

In Luigi's Mansion 3, Luigi's hair is fully rendered underneath his hat. However, in order to not let it clip through the hat, his cranial volume has been reduced compared to his regular hatless model seen in other games.

In Level 5-4 of Yoshi's Island, two Georgette Jelly enemies are positioned a specific distance from each other so that if Yoshi spits a Shy Guy into the space between the two, the Shy Guy will bounce between them indefinitely.
