In the data of Paper Mario, an unused sprite of Peach kissing someone, presumably Mario, can be found (left). As the sprite is only present in a palette used for dark areas, a mock-up of the sprite with the regular palette (and Mario for demonstration) is provided (right).

Level 1-7 of Yoshi's Island, "Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy", contains one of the easiest-to-perform infinite life tricks in the greater Mario franchise. The process is detailed in the image. Once initiated, the game can be left running without input until the life count reaches 999.

It is possible, although very difficult, to collect 30 of a fruit that is not melons in a level in Yoshi's Story. This can be done by strategically using Heart Fruit to turn 18 enemies into the desired fruit. The drawing in the level ending animation changes accordingly.

Due to NES sprite limits, under certain specific circumstances the whites of Mario's eyes will turn black for a few frames in Super Mario Bros. 2. One way to achieve this is to let a Birdo's egg pass Mario (only in small form) and hit the wall behind him in Level 2-1.

Nintendo's 2013 financial report contained examples of Miiverse drawings to illustrate the appeal of the service. Here are all the Mario-related drawings used.

Both Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario contain remnants of a design concept for Princess Peach with shorter hair; seen on Peach's chapter intro medallion in the former and found as an unused quick edit of the sprite in the data of the latter.

In Super Mario Bros. 3, only one out of eight levels in Grass Land (1-2, top middle) has ground that resembles grass due to its color, while the others contain no grass. In addition, the Grass Land map has yellow ground. Worlds 3, 4 and 7 all contain more grass than Grass Land.

In Tetris DS, the bottom screen of Puzzle Mode displays a static background of Yoshi looking at the player (top). However, the background is actually made of two parts: an unseen base image of Yoshi looking the other way, which is then covered up with a separate layer.

To commemorate today's closing of the Wii Shop Channel after 12 years of operation, here is the only time the channel was referenced inside a Mario game: in Super Paper Mario, the Wii Shop Channel loading icon briefly appears in Fracktail's eye during a cutscene.

Unused animation of Mario performing a punch found in the data of Super Mario Galaxy. Like in Super Mario 64, Mario's fist enlarges during the punch. The animation is notably quick; it takes 4 frames, or 1/15 of a second, from wind-up to punch.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one of Piranha Plant's taunts ends in it displaying a grin (top left). This expression is achieved using a perspective trick; by moving the camera we can see that the teeth on the side of the model not facing the screen are enlarged for the effect.

The animated stickers featured on Nintendo's official LINE account are drawn to have every frame resemble official 2D Mario artwork as closely as possible. Here are the very few singular frames where characters are drawn in a nonstandard manner.

To fit the 256x240 pixel display of Super Mario Bros. into the 240x160 pixel resolution of the Game Boy Advance, the sprites in the Classic NES Series version of the game were adjusted to take up less vertical space. Here is a comparison of Mario's original and adjusted sprites.

The 1995 Japanese guide for Mario's Super Picross contains a short comic built on the same premise as the American Mario cartoons - that Mario and Luigi have a plumbing business in Brooklyn - with the difference that Princess Peach is also an employee at their company.

In Luigi's Mansion, Luigi will comment "Now THAT is what I call interior decorating!" when scanning certain light fixtures that can only be found on the exterior of the mansion.

During the event in Chapter 7 of Paper Mario where Mario must tell Bombette apart from imposters, a shadow can be seen on the floor behind Mario. That shadow belongs to the actual Bombette, who is still following Mario around; merely made invisible as a development shortcut.

An Easter egg in Super Mario Odyssey allows Mario to pass by the Tostarenan doorkeeper without a poncho by wearing the Skeleton Suit. However, his text does not change; even if Mario wears the Invisibility Hat with the Skeleton Suit, the doorkeeper will comment on his clothes.

A recurring theme in Super Princess Peach is a disregard for Luigi. Peach tosses him away after rescuing him and pushes him aside after rescuing Mario. Hitting Mario in the Toad Shot game gives a 10 point penalty while Luigi is 3 points. Luigi is also never called by his name.

In Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, Luigi's new, redrawn Super Mario World sprites have an unused palette that gives him Mario's colors.

At the end of Super Mario Land 2, Wario loses his hat and appears bald despite being depicted with visible hair when he is wearing the hat (top). A Super Mario Land 2 manga explains that Wario's hair is a wig attached to his hat (bottom).

In Super Mario 64, when Mario performs his Z+B kick move (called "Trip" by the manual), one of the buttons on his overalls disappears for the duration of the move.
