In the sunken ship in Jolly Roger Bay in Super Mario 64, there is one corner that has no collision that Mario can swim right through (left). Swimming upwards after going through the wall will lead Mario to an open expanse of water in the darkness (right).

In Super Mario 64, the lighting effect on Bowser in the final battle (left) is achieved by taking the regular Bowser model and applying a layer of rainbow colors on top of it. On the right is the color layer by itself, without Bowser's regular textures.

The Art of Super Mario Odyssey book shows an early Mario model with extra detail on his shoes. This was not used for the game; however, the Nintendo Tokyo store features a Mario statue from 2019 with that detail, suggesting this model may be used for the next mainline Mario game.

When calling the E. Gadd Hotline in Luigi's Mansion 3, sometimes E. Gadd's model will be seen in a default position for a frame when the first letter of the message appears (left) before snapping to the correct position (right).

In Super Mario Maker 2, a unique effect can be observed by stacking a Zappa Mechakoopa onto a giant Iggy (left). The Zappa Mechakoopa will blend into Iggy's sprite due to their similar colors (middle) and Iggy will appear to shoot lasers from his eyes (right).

At one point in Super Mario Sunshine, Delfino Plaza is flooded while the rest of Isle Delfino is not. The game achieves this not by raising the water level, but by lowering Delfino Plaza relative to the rest of the island (note the same water level in Ricco Harbor on the left).

During the beginning segment of Paper Mario: The Origami King, a series of events happens at the east end of Whispering Woods. Going all the way back to the other end to talk to the furthest tree after each event will give a new comment on Mario's thoughtfulness each time.

The Art of Super Mario Odyssey book provides in-universe lore for the Binoculars, describing how they operate and stating that they are supposed to be an older model of the Binoculars from Super Mario 3D Land (right).

With the upcoming release of Paper Mario: The Origami King, I am adopting a special spoiler policy for the game, where I will cover certain areas of the game progressively over time. I sincerely hope that I am able to avoid spoiling the game for as many of my readers as possible.

The eye texture used for Mario and Luigi in Luigi's Mansion 3 provides the most detailed view of their eyes to date. The texture's resolution is higher than all previous depictions of their eyes both in games and in official artwork.

During a brief segment of the E3 2014 Nintendo Treehouse stream, prototype Yoshi designs for Yoshi's Woolly World were shown. Note that the sheep-like "Woolly Yoshi" (right) was supposed to not be a transformation, but a concept for the regular Yoshi design.

Donkey Kong Land uses a reference to the British rock band Pink Floyd as an integrity check. Four "PFLOYD" strings are found in the code. The game checks if all four are present when the game runs; if they are not, the save files are deleted.

In Super Mario 64, if Mario destroys all bombs in a Bowser battle by jumping into them, Bowser will become essentially invincible as there will be no way left to harm him, requiring Mario to either die or exit the course. This was fixed in the DS version, where the bombs respawn.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Goombella often has special tattle messages for NPCs in extraordinary circumstances. However, sometimes she does not; here, when Shellshock eats the poisoned cake in Chapter 3, Goombella says he "seems to be totally on top of his game".

In Super Mario 64, the middle Tiny-Huge Island painting is merely decorative. However, in Super Mario 64 DS, looking at it from the side reveals that it is covering a white square used internally by warp paintings, suggesting it was planned to be a warp painting at some point.
