Drawing of Peach, Mario and Luigi by Shigeru Miyamoto, seen in the official Japanese guide for Super Mario All-Stars. This is one of the very rare instances of Miyamoto drawing Peach's modern design, as he usually draws Mario, Yoshi and Toad when asked to do a sketch.

In Paper Mario, the Group Focus badge is a rarely-used badge that allows Mario's partners to perform the Focus command in battle. This also causes each of them to assume a sprite unique to this badge, depicting them in thought or prayer.

In Bowser's Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey, by rolling into the entrance of the Crazy Cap shop and throwing Cappy at a precise moment, Mario will treat the area in front of the door as an extension of the nearby bench and sit down in mid-air.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, if Mario or Luigi are riding Yoshi and enter first-person view, there will be a single frame after returning from first-person view where their hands and most of their faces are not rendered.

Extremely rare fully unobscured Wizard Toad artwork from Mario Party 2. Even though Wizard Toad is present in every regional version of the game's box art, he is always partially covered by other characters.

In Luigi's Mansion 3, ghosts board up the entrance to the hotel, which gives the reason for why Luigi can't leave (left). However, approaching the door after the battle shows the boards and chains have disappeared (right), meaning Luigi would be free to leave, but chooses not to.

While most 3D games model the buttons on Mario's/Luigi's/Wario's/Waluigi's overalls as discs (left), the Mario & Sonic series has, since its beginning, modeled them as spikes embedded in their bodies. On the right is a model from Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

As discovered by Twitter user @kikaim, a Chain Chomp on the cover of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions only has teeth on one side of its mouth. I have created a mock-up of what this Chain Chomp would look like in 3D.

In Mario Party 4, if a character stops exactly one space before a Lottery Shop, the character may assume a T-pose until the next dice roll, as seen here with Mario and Donkey Kong.

Bowser's Brother, also known as Blue Bowser, is a mysterious character that originated as a graphical glitch in Super Mario Bros. and was made into a distinct character in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. Below is the entirety of official information available regarding him.

In some games, Miis can wear Mario character costumes. Viewing the costumes where the Mii's head is inside the character's mouth without the Mii (not usually possible in-game) shows they have the inside of their mouth modeled, looking like screaming versions of the characters.

When Mario or Luigi get caught in a Tweester tornado in Super Mario Galaxy, they assume special models that simulate rapid arm rotation by using two extra arms. Here are the models extracted from the game's data.

In Super Mario World, Skewers are able to steal Mario's power-ups. If a power-up crosses the path of a Skewer, the Skewer will first absorb it inside itself, then into the wall, and finally whisk it off-screen.

In the GP mode of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, most characters will be given "rivals" that will perform better than the other drivers, chosen mostly due to some sort of relationship with the character. Here is a list of all rivalries. Curiously, Link, King Boo and Lakitu have no rivals.

At one point in Super Mario Sunshine, Delfino Plaza is flooded while the rest of Isle Delfino is not. The game achieves this not by raising the water level, but by lowering Delfino Plaza relative to the rest of the island (note the same water level in Ricco Harbor on the left).

In Super Mario Galaxy, Mario's reflection acts in the opposite way to everyone else's. Surfaces that reflect Mario reflect no other characters or objects (left), while surfaces that reflect everything else do not reflect Mario (right).

In the Groovy level in Super Mario World, four Pokeys are lined up vertically on a set of ledges. By carefully adjusting their number of segments with Yoshi, when they fall down, they will overlap each other to create what is seemingly a Pokey made out of Pokey heads.

In Super Mario 64, there is a corner in Shifting Sand Land where rolling into it will result in Mario rolling in place. At this point, the only options are to continue rolling indefinitely or to tilt Mario towards the quicksand to let him die.

Illustration from documents handed out at the 2014 Nintendo Game Seminar, appearing to depict Super Mario 3D World concept art. The artwork suggests that the Cloud Flower from Super Mario Galaxy 2 was intended to be in the game and that Cat Luigi was originally based on a tiger.

In Super Mario 64, if Mario both activates a Power Star and collects a different Power Star in the same movement, he will be stuck holding a small Power Star forever, forcing the game to be reset.

The intro to the North American version of New Super Mario Bros. Wii starts with the message "Today is Princess Peach's birthday!" (left). For an unknown reason, this was changed in the European version to sound less enthusiastic (right).
