The Art of Super Mario Odyssey book shows the concept artwork upon which the design of the "Peach (Wedding Outfit)" amiibo is based. According to the artwork, Peach's pose represents her being surprised and saying "Wao!"

When Mario visits a shop for the first time on a save file in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the shopkeeper mentions this. The story forces Mario to visit a shop before Chapter 3; if this is skipped with cheats, the later-game shopkeepers will have an incredulous reaction.

A common Super Mario 64 urban legend is that it is possible for Dorrie to eat Mario, based on an in-game sign saying "Don't become his lunch". While that is not possible, Mario can in fact be harmed by Dorrie by diving into its neck at a very precise angle, becoming squashed.

Production photo of a factory worker checking whether Super Mario Bros. 3 cartridges will start in a Famicom. In 1988, every manufactured copy of a Nintendo game was still tested manually for errors. The worker is using both hands to operate two Famicoms for maximum efficiency.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bowser sits on a throne in pre-boss cutscenes. Zooming in on his tail shows it is absent so it does not clip through the throne; however, viewing the wireframe of Bowser's model reveals the tail has been turned inside-out and is visible inside his torso.

Posting on all Supper Mario Broth sites will resume now. I cannot express how grateful I am for your support and patience as I dealt with my situation. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I hope the upcoming posts will be satisfactory.

At the end of Super Mario Land 2, Wario loses his hat and appears bald despite being depicted with visible hair when he is wearing the hat (top). A Super Mario Land 2 manga explains that Wario's hair is a wig attached to his hat (bottom).

In 2000, the official Nintendo of America site featured an April Fools' Day article claiming that Lickitung can evolve into Luigi in Pokémon Red and Blue by turning the Game Boy upside down (highlighted). In 2013, a Pokémon that actually evolves this way was introduced (right).

With the release of Luigi's Mansion 3, the Mario, Wario and Luigi sub-franchises all featured games where the most common/basic enemy had a name starting with "Goo" (Goomba, Goom, Goob). How much of this is an intentional reference and how much is coincidence is unknown.

In the Forest Secret Area in Super Mario World, jumping on a flying platform causes the background to scroll. However, jumping back onto the starting area does not stop the scrolling. This results in a visual effect where the entire landmass appears to accelerate through space.

In the files of Super Paper Mario, an unused "Evil Mario" enemy can be found. While regular Mario always faces toward the screen, Evil Mario always faces away from the screen to show his opposite alignment. Details in image.

In Super Mario 64, Mario can recover air underwater by collecting coins. A Super Mario 64 manga explains that Mario breaks open the coins, which are filled with air, and inhales it. (I have rearranged the panels into a Western left-to-right reading order.)

In Super Mario 64, Mario's model only uses textures for five spots on his body: the hat emblem, sideburns, eyes, mustache, and the buttons on his overalls. The rest of the model is colored in by the game's engine and looks like the left image before the textures are applied.

DiC Entertainment original production artwork for the Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon, depicting King Koopa with no mouth. During production, King Koopa's mouth would sometimes be animated on a separate layer, leaving the base layer looking like this.

In a new gameplay clip seen on Nintendo of Japan's official website for Paper Mario: The Origami King, Birdo can be seen flying in the far background for a few frames. Whether this is merely an Easter egg or Birdo has a more important role is not yet known.

The "Wanted" minigame in the Chinese version of New Super Mario Bros. contains a second, unused set of sprites based on the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 3. I have created a mock-up of what the game would have looked like with them. Left: used, right: unused.

In Super Mario 64, an oversight in the code results in the texture for one of the Scuttlebug enemy's eyes being mirrored along the wrong axis, giving it a lopsided appearance (left). By loading the model correctly, we can see what the eyes were intended to look like (right).

The data of Super Mario RPG contains an unused purple Bahamutt-like enemy with sunglasses, which appears to be a hybrid between Bahamutt and Boshi. The decision to combine them may have been due to both being related to Yoshi through their Japanese names (Doshi and Washi).

In Super Mario Sunshine, the way the silhouette appearance of Phantamanta is achieved is by making its model an extremely tall manta-shaped pillar and simply coloring the ground wherever it intersects with the environment. Details in image.

In a 1990 interview, Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that a sketch of Mario riding a dinosaur he drew for Super Mario Bros. in 1985 was hanging above his desk for five years until he finally was able to implement Yoshi in Super Mario World.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl contains an unused model of Luigi in his blue costume that is covered in unusual white segments. The unique appearance of the model is actually due to Luigi being fused with his own shadow. Details in image.

According to Yoshi's Island DS, Mario, Luigi and Wario are "Star Children" who are said to possess "an extraordinary amount of power", while Waluigi is not. This makes Waluigi fundamentally different and potentially inferior to the other three.

Mario Party 4 contains messages intended as disclaimers that the message is missing when an invalid ID is loaded. However, instead of using the same message every time, the disclaimers are all different and appear increasingly more forlorn as the internal message list goes on.
