In Super Mario Party, if the player tilts the Control Stick very slighty directly after exiting a pipe, the player character will slide on the ground instead of walking. With Joy-Con drift, this effect even has a chance of happening without any player input.

In Super Mario Sunshine, random spots in various levels have glitched collision that, if Mario sidesteps onto the spot, will teleport Mario to the bottom of the map, killing him instantly.

While this is almost certainly only a remarkable coincidence, when Mario enters Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64 from the rear courtyard, his cap is aligned pixel-perfectly with the hallway in a way that would be impossible if he or the camera were not in those precise positions.

In the 2020 Nintendo recruitment book, Luigi is seen playing the upright bass (left). This is continuous with the Super Mario 3D World soundtrack booklet, where he also plays it (middle, right). It is possible that playing the upright bass is now part of Luigi's characterization.

In Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Cat Fuzzlers are normally fuzzy creatures (left). However, during one Cat Shine cutscene, the game briefly shows an uninitialized model for a Cat Fuzzler, which appears fuzzless (right).

Prior to the release of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, the only 2D depictions of Small Peach and Small Rosalina were pixelated black and white stamps. Now, with stamps being upgraded to color artwork, they have their first official art, shown here extracted from the files.

The Art of Super Mario Odyssey book reveals that one of the unused costume designs for Mario was "Golden Age of Animation Mario" (left), which combined the aesthetics of the first official Mario artwork on the Donkey Kong arcade cabinet (middle) and 1920s cartoons (right).

Due to the small size of Wario's irises, his eye color appears to be black from a distance, and has been depicted as such in the past. However, more modern renders and textures are now detailed enough to reveal that he actually has blue eyes, like Mario.

A detail from Mario Kart 8 may reveal an aspect of power-ups in the Mario series. In that game, Tanooki Mario is lighter than Mario and Cat Peach is lighter than Peach. This implies that these power-ups help increase the users' agility by literally reducing their weight.

In 2018, Build-A-Bear Workshop introduced a licensed Mario plush collection. For a limited time, the Bowser plush could be ordered in an unstuffed form from their website; this form is now very rare due to no longer being produced. The regular form is on the right for comparison.

In the code of Super Mario Sunshine, there is unused functionality for a "perpetually goop-covered Mario", where Mario is completely covered in goop and has narrowed eyes. No amount of water can wash off this goop. In areas without goop, Mario assumes a black and white texture.

In Mario Kart Wii, the Battle menu shows two balloons and a coin. However, there are actually three balloons; one is simply 1/100 the size of the others. This is due to balloons always coming in threes and the developers deciding that shrinking it was easier than deleting it.

In the Super Mario Maker games, a Boo attached to a ground tile becomes a Stretch. While they did not react to Mario in the first game, in Super Mario Maker 2, the Ground theme adds special behavior at night where they stop when Mario looks at them. New unique sprites were added.

In Super Mario Odyssey, the New Donk City power plant depletes Power Moons at a rate of exactly one per second. Since the power plant is said to be the only source of the city's power, we can calculate that New Donk City runs on 86,400 Power Moons per day, or 31,536,000 per year.

In Yoshi's New Island, instead of having separate models or animations for facing right and left, the Gusty enemies simply have a face on both sides of their heads, resulting in a two-faced creature.

Super Mario 64 DS will become severely glitched if Yoshi throws an egg on the same frame as jumping on a Goomba. One possible effect is Yoshi becoming extremely fast. Note that the footage below has not been sped up or modified in any way.

According to the Art of Super Mario Odyssey book, the Moon Kingdom and Bowser's Kingdom were originally intended to be one location, so that instead of having a separate "Japanese castle" and "moon" levels, the theme was "Japanese castle on the moon".
