The eye texture used for Mario and Luigi in Luigi's Mansion 3 provides the most detailed view of their eyes to date. The texture's resolution is higher than all previous depictions of their eyes both in games and in official artwork.

Extremely rare officially licensed eraser of Chained Kong from Super Mario RPG. Chained Kongs and Guerrillas are uncommon prisoner-themed enemies in the game that use Donkey Kong's design. A limited run of erasers based on the game's more obscure characters was made in 1996.

Behind-the-scenes photos of the creation process of the Yoshi mascot suit used in various North American commercials. Left: rough pieces of foam are fitted onto a frame; middle: the foam is trimmed to a smooth shape; right: an outer layer of felt and extra details are added.

In the ending of Luigi's Mansion, Mario shoots out of the vent of a machine after being restored from being trapped in a painting. To prevent his head from clipping through the vent ahead of time, it is shrunk to a fraction of its size while he is inside the machine.

All mainline (non-arcade) Mario Kart games share this property: each title contains either the SNES Rainbow Road track or the Fake Item Box item, but never both at the same time. While it is most likely a coincidence, this is the only such exclusionary relationship in the series.

In Super Mario 64, punching Big Goombas seemingly does nothing. However, internally, it actually activates their "mark_goomba_as_dead()" function, so they exist in a state where the game considers them already dead. Leaving and coming back will cause them to not respawn.

In a 10-Man Smash as Yoshi in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, a Giant Yoshi is fought. If the Egg Lay move is used on him, he will emerge from the egg slightly larger. This can be repeated until he is so large he touches the upper KO boundary, self-destructing immediately.

In Super Mario 3D World, the Blockstepper enemies are always seen wearing soldier hats; however, they are fully modeled underneath. By removing the hats in a model editor, we can see what a "civilian" Blockstepper would look like.

In Super Mario Odyssey, it is never shown what the Odyssey looked like before being abandoned in the Cascade Kingdom. The Art of Super Mario Odyssey book reveals that it was originally black with a pink ribbon, and the in-game red color scheme is a result of Power Moon magic.

The Mario Party 4 version of the Chance Time event, Reversal of Fortune, does not normally have an explanation screen. However, one still exists in the game's data. The preview reads "NOW PRINTING" and the rules of the game are simply "Mario".

The NES manual for Wrecking Crew provides illustrations of Mario trapped in "hopeless cases" with "no escape". The only way to resume playing in these cases is to press Select; however, the manual does not mention this and instead acts like there is nothing the player can do.

Due to their objects containing crucial code, every scene in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door contains either Mario, Peach or Bowser. If the characters are not visible in the scene, they are simply hidden off-screen (note Mario and Peach in the darkness below the scenes).

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door contains an extremely difficult-to-catch piece of foreshadowing that requires a player to go out of the way to visit an area ahead of time and look for a discrepancy in partner comments that reveals that one of them knows more than the others.

In Luigi's Mansion 3, Peach has "eyes on the back of her eyes", i.e. an additional pair of irises on the back side of her eyeballs, looking inside her skull. Details in image.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, whenever Mario grabs onto a ledge, his hat moves up slightly, revealing that his head is not modeled past his forehead. It is possible to zoom in on the gap and see the inside of Mario's hat through the empty space in his head.

In Super Mario 64, it is possible to sleep inside Bowser. Mario's post-damage blinking invincibility continues indefinitely while he is inside an enemy, and Bowser turns around in the same spot forever as long as Mario is inside his hitbox. After a while, Mario will fall asleep.

Datamining Miitopia reveals that some Yoshi colors and a Toad color are referred to differently internally at Nintendo than they are called publicly. Light Blue Yoshi is Sky Blue Yoshi, Blue Yoshi is Vivid Azure Yoshi, and Purple Toad is actually Fuchsia Toad.

The official Japanese guide for Super Mario RPG contains artwork of various clothing items, however, the artwork depicts just the clothing and not the character actually wearing it. I have created mock-ups of Mario wearing his various outfits by pasting his body onto the clothes.

In the licensed version of Mario Bros. for the PC-8801 home computer, known as "Punch Ball Mario Bros.", failing to get any coins during a bonus round results in this screen that simply says "Mario." over a picture of Mario being displayed.

In Donkey Kong Country 2, a Klobber enemy that is dropped into lava does not actually die. Instead, it is teleported so far up that it takes 3 minutes for it to fall down. If the player waits in that spot for 3 minutes, the Klobber will fall down from the sky.

Whenever Mario enters water from a great height in Super Mario 64, he says "haha!" This actually sets a "haha flag", which does not get cleared until Mario enters an airborne state or exits the area. As long as it is set, Mario will say "haha!" every time he touches water.

While most Mario artwork since 2000 is available in high resolution due to being distributed digitally to journalists, there are exceptions. This Super Mario 64 DS artwork of Wario throwing Luigi is exclusive to a single guide and no high-resolution version of it was ever found.

All hardware sent in to Nintendo for repair is tested using system-specific software. One GBA test cartridge contains a bizarre graphics test where images of Donkey Kong, Chunky Kong and Diddy Kong are displayed and then censored to test the console's mosaic tiling functionality.

An officially licensed 2013 Luigi Nintendo 3DS XL cover featured distorted official artwork of Luigi that drastically shortened the length of his neck. Below is a comparison between the source artwork and the version depicted on the cover.
