HK01 reporting the pro-🇨🇳 legislators slept in LegCo overnight amid fears they wouldn’t be able to get in this morning due to planned protests, which haven’t materialised Imagine sleeping on a blow-up mattress between Junius Ho & Regina Ip, for no reason Worst. Sleepover. Ever.

UPDATE: The Lands Department has announced it’s found British HK Police Assistant Police Commissioner Rupert Dover has occupied government land unlawfully & built illegal structures in Sai Kung (!!). Barely any punishment, obviously. But still hilarious. news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/compon… twitter.com/JackHHazlewood…

This evening by SOGO, 8 pro-democracy activists held big character-style placards that read: '絕望困境更需彼此' - In this time of dread we need each other more' '寧為玉碎不為瓦全' - 'rather be broken jade than an intact block' Tomorrow will be big. Expect a huge confrontation.

Ming Pao (明報) columnist Lee Sin Zi (李先知) is claiming that the HK Police are examining whether the Police General Orders stating they should facilitate the work of reporters on-scene may in future only apply to 'mainstream media'. Worrying & Orwellian. news.mingpao.com/pns/%E8%A7%80%…

As the proposed national anthem law comes before LegCo tomorrow, Hong Kong is braced for what will likely be another attempt to occupy the chamber. Police have blocked off LegCo already & the HK Confederation of Trade Unions has also called for a last-minute general strike.

The HK Bar Association has issued a statement savaging Beijing’s plans to railroad through draconian national security laws in HK - argues HK’s judicial independence undermined & ‘unclear’ Beijing even has the legal authority to enact the laws. @AppleDaily_HK (蘋果日報) report 👇

Today the Hong Kong Police put out appeals for information concerning 2 cases of isolated violence against anti-protest activists. Nothing on their clear sexual assault of a Stand News reporter yesterday, or litany of brutalising. Unsurprising 72.6% of people are dissatisfied.

The VC of Demosisto @IsaacChengCKL has become the second person arrested on suspicion of violating the Trade Descriptions Ordinance for making face masks labelled as ‘not made in China’. Another case of blatant political persecution by the HK government. hk.appledaily.com/local/20200525…

Following the march against Beijing's proposals to railroad through draconian national security laws in HK, here's a round up of HK's newspapers' front pages: Pro-democracy tabloid Apple Daily (蘋果日報) notably leads with a photo with a protestor holding a pro-independence flag.

The PSHK captured more 📸 of senior expat officers in the HK Police today. On the left appears to be Paul Renouf, a French national. On the right is Brit John Carroll, his massive girth is unmistakable. Their home countries should be disgusted with their role in the crackdown. twitter.com/JackHHazlewood…

The Hong Kong Police have confirmed there have been over 180 arrests as of 21:30 HKT, saying 'a large group of rioters' have 'wreaked havoc in Causeway Bay and Wan Chai under the pretext of protest'. No mention of the police brutalising bystanders, journalists & protestors then.

Earlier, one of the senior British officers in the HK Police was photographed in CWB. Baptist University student journos have reported it as being Rupert Dover, but the shoulder insignia doesn't match his rank & he looks too fat to be Dover. Anyone know who it is? Pic: HKBUSU

This photo by a @StandNewsHK (立場) reporter is being extremely widely circulated - it shows the aftermath of a person being hit with a pepperball by riot police. SN report states the wound was so deep that bone was visible & police only allowed a single medic to give first aid.

Stand News (立場) has released video footage showing one of their journalists being attacked by riot police inside Harbour City, TST. Stand condemned the police's actions & said that they will investigate, claim she was conducting an interview before being threatened & attacked.

The case of a HK Police officer in riot gear taking some drinks without paying has been followed up by @appledaily_hk - legal experts have said that even though the PR wing of the HKPF left payment a few hours later, he still committed a criminal offence. hk.appledaily.com/local/20200524… twitter.com/JackHHazlewood…

Another completely aimless charge by riot police down Hennessy Road when there weren't even any protestors in the vicinity. Terrible tactics, even worse policing. HongKongers tax money is spent on these goons. Vid: HSUHKSU

Excruciating photos of a brutal arrest of what appears to be a bystander outside a Bank of China branch on Hennessy Rd. He's clearly injured & in distress, yet is still wrestled to the ground, despite constituting no threat to the riot police arresting him. Pics: HKBUSU; Kathy L.

Absolutely obsessed with this HK protestor. Supremely cool style. Pics: @StandNewsHK

Hordes of riot police just mounted a charge down Hennessy Road for apparently no reason. You can see an arrest being made at the very end of the video but that can't be the reason. On a basic level it's just another case of extremely poor decision making by the HKPF. Vid: HSUHKSU

If you're wondering just how far the popular view of the HK Police has degenerated, watch this: Passer-by throws a plastic bottle. Police retreat, to sarcastic applause & jeers from bystanders. IPCC report of 72.6% 'dissatisfied' with HKPF likely an underestimate. Vid: HSUHKSU

On Lockhart Road, a mother & son were leaving a restaurant when her child suffered a direct hit from a pepper ball round fired by riot police. Firing at civilians, firing at kids. This is the HK Police. Pics: Joshua Kwan (of 社媒)

As tear gas is fired on the streets of HK, PM Boris Johnson is reportedly preparing to allow hundreds of thousands of HKers to emigrate to the UK in a Ugandan-style 'lifeboat' immigration scheme. Unclear whether just BNO holders but report is v. welcome. Pic via @lukedepulford

A nasty picture showing an unarmed member of the public being pepper sprayed by riot police. This is why e.g. the IPCC report is so discredited when it claims the HK Police's conduct has been broadly proportionate and acceptable. The guy poses no threat whatsoever. Pic: 學媒新聞

Horrifying photo shows a journalist being targeted by a HKPF water cannon in CWB. There are no protestors in their immediate vicinity, showing the HK Police's total contempt for the press. Pic: PolyUSU ('金魚').

Stand News (立場) reporting that a man in white threw a beer can on the road in the direction of riot police, who chased him. A SN reporter filming the incident was then threatened by police & told to move, & was peppersprayed a few seconds later with other reporters. Pic: SN.
