IAEA flag is now flying at #Ukraine’s #Pivdennoukrainsk (South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant). We are here to stay to help ensure nuclear safety & security during ongoing conflict. Soon IAEA will be permanently present at all 🇺🇦 NPPs.

I met 🇺🇦@ZelenskyyUa today in Zaporizhzhya City & had a rich exchange on the protection of the #Zaporizhzhya NPP and its staff. I reiterated the full support of the @iaeaorg to #Ukraine’s nuclear facilities.

The ⁦@iaeaorg⁩ team must go to Zaporizhia just as we did to Chornobyl and South Ukraine earlier in the year. We can put together a safety, security and safeguards mission and deliver the indispensable assistance and impartial assessment that is needed.

I'm at South #Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant to meet Ukrainian gov't officials and staff, and start @iaeaorg technical assistance for safety and security of country’s nuclear facilities. Vital to be on the ground to provide effective support to 🇺🇦 in these extremely difficult times.

I have just addressed the #UNSC and launched a proposal to create a Nuclear Safety and Security Protection Zone (NSSPZ) in #Zaporizhzhya. This is based on the findings from our mission to the power plant there, outlined in our new report. bit.ly/3RkPbao

After Finland, #Sweden becomes 2nd country in the 🌍 to approve a deep geological repository for high-level nuclear waste. This technically proven solution can be part of the #ClimateCrisis solution. @iaeaorg to work with Sweden in this important endeavor. bit.ly/3o5uPoI

On my way to #Zaporizhzhya NPP to assess first-hand the #nuclear safety & security situation at the facility. I will continue my efforts to protect the nuclear plant during the ongoing military conflict, & lead our next regular rotation of @iaeaorg experts to & from the site.

Tomorrow I travel to Tehran to meet with senior Iranian officials to find a mutually agreeable solution, compatible with Iranian law, so that the @iaeaorg can continue essential verification activities in Iran. Looking forward to success – this is in everybody’s interest.

The @iaeaorg expert team is crossing the front line & when necessary, even by foot. The ISAMZ rotation at Zaporizhzhya #NPP is now completed. I am incredibly proud of the professionalism of our staff. Very thankful to the @UN for their support. The IAEA will not stop.

At the invitation of #Turkey’s Foreign Minister @MevlutCavusoglu I will travel tomorrow to Antalya. In meetings there I hope to make progress on the urgent issue of ensuring the safety and security of #Ukraine’s nuclear facilities. We need to act now!

UPDATE—I've been informed by our team on site that external power to #Zaporizhzhya NPP is restored. #ZNPP's operator says this morning's outage was caused by shelling damage to a far off sub-station, highlighting how precarious the situation is.
