Today marks 36 years since the #Chornobyl nuclear power plant accident, the most severe in the history of nuclear power. I'm here to pay respect to the victims of the nuclear accident and to all those who work tirelessly to rebuild and protect this place.

Told @UN SC I’m extremely concerned about events at #Ukraine #Zaporizhzhia NPP. They proved that armed conflict in the area of a NPP puts at risk the fundamental principle that the physical integrity of nuclear facilities must be maintained & they should be kept safe at all time.

I will head an @iaeaorg assistance and support mission to the #Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant as soon as possible. It will be the first in a series of such nuclear safety and security missions to #Ukraine.

Visiting the 🇵🇰 Nuclear Medicine Oncology & #Radiotherapy Inst., an important @iaeaorg partner & a perfect example of peaceful nuclear uses. Proud to inaugurate Cyberknife, a #CancerCare4All milestone. Pakistan will support its neighbors as a regional centre in Rays of Hope.

The resumption of direct shelling, hitting #Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant’s sole source of external power, is tremendously irresponsible. #ZNPP must be protected. I will soon travel to 🇷🇺 Russia & again to 🇺🇦 Ukraine to agree on a protection zone. This is an imperative. twitter.com/iaeaorg/status…
72
#Ukraine’s #ZNPP this morning lost all external electricity for 7th time during conflict, forcing it to rely on emergency diesel generators for power; nuclear safety situation at the plant extremely vulnerable. We must agree to protect plant now; this situation cannot continue.

I’m in Oslo where I received an important contribution from 🇳🇴 #Norway to help @iaeaorg continue to provide its vital support to 🇺🇦, protect its #nuclear infrastructure & assess Kakhovka dam flooding’s damage @NorwayMFA @AHuitfeldt @NorwayinVienna See my video from last week.

Today is the birthday of both Marie Skłodowska–Curie and Lise Meitner — possibly the most famous & influential women in #NuclearScience. Nuclear technology and understanding wouldn't be where it is today without their contributions.

The #Dnieper hydroelectric station is an essential part of the system that sustains the nuclear safety of the #Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. 🇺🇦@ZelenskyyUa showed me the recent damage suffered by the dam
