Olivia Lutaaya is 30. She is a young mother of two. She mobilised for @NUP_Ug during the 2021 election. For that, she was abducted, beaten up, held incommunicado for weeks, and then arraigned before the military court. She is still in jail! #FreeAllPoliticalPrisonersUganda

Earlier, we were joined by 3 victims of abductions and torture who narrated the ordeal they endured. Amidst beatings, @MotivKasagga, #NalubowaTeddy & #YusufKiggundu were grilled about "How much does Bobi Wine pay you to oppose [us]?" The regime assumes we pay them to oppose it!

We were also joined by relatives of the 32 comrades denied bail by the military court on Tuesday. One of them — Kalanzi Ashraf's wife — narrated how he was undressed before his children and beaten to near death. They then beat up his children, and dragged him away unconscious.

Machete's mother spoke of how his son was badly tortured to a point of bleeding profusely through the nose, one month after his abduction. Matovu Abdul's mother spoke of the pain they have endured all these months without the son who was the sole bread winner for the family.

On our part, we condemned the rampant abductions and the trial of civilians in military courts. I charged our leaders, especially the religious and cultural leaders, as well as journalists to speak out against the terrible, horrific abductions of our people!

We spent the day at Kitalya Prison to check on our comrades who are detained there for close to two years. These include part of the 32 who were denied bail by the military court this week, as well as many who were picked up for putting on red berets in 2020.

Is Gen. Museveni now going to apologise to all women and girls? As the world fights to end sexism, his son shamelessly publicises how he views women as mere sex objects! He doesn't care if this is someone's wife. The same Museveni signed a Computer Misuse Act to silence dissent!

His father told Ugandans to eat cassava if they can't afford bread. His 'mother' asked poor village mothers who can't afford food to buy food-flasks. NOW THIS. Blinded by privilege! Completely detached from the reality of Ugandans who they have plundered for close to 4 decades!

Very delighted this evening to receive the first batch of 12 Ugandans who have been stuck at Al Awir Deportation Jail for several months! The stories are sad. Many fled dehumanising conditions and ended up in the detention. Grateful to all of you who have embraced this effort!

This is a national and indeed African call. I encourage all leaders, political parties, religious institutions, the business community and all people of good-will to pick interest in the plight of our people stuck in detention in the Middle East and support their return home.

Comrade @MotivKasagga tells his story at CMI: "For the entire 72 hours I was held captive, they denied me food as another torture tool. I was only drinking toilet water, and their 30 whips for all the time I was held hostage."

"They're quite organized in a sense that after clobbering you, they deploy another soldier of your tribe and religion to counsel you and lure you out of the struggle.... I was told that when I'm captured, it's me to suffer, not Bobi Wine or any other NUP leader." Pure criminals!

In the video is Lt Gen. Charles Otema Awany (Commander, UPDF Reserve Forces). While our law forbids serving military officers from engaging in partisan politics, Lt. Gen. Awany can be heard declaring support for the NRM regime. I doubt he will be held accountable.

In Aug. 2020, photos of retired UPDF officer Pte. Justus Turyatunga donning a #PeoplePower beret and mask circulated online. He was arrested; tortured, Court-Martialled and sentenced him to 3 years in prison.
1970
We hear that Pte. Turyatunga — who was in UPDF's 105th Battalion and served in Somalia under UGABAG [Battle Group] 31 — was subsequently stripped of his pension and other benefits following the conviction. The double standards!

After 25 days of incommunicado detention, our comrade Abbas Semakula was dumped somewhere in Industrial Area Saturday night! He says he was subjected to so much torture at the military facility, that drove him into a state of unconsciousness! His colleague Gaaza is still missing.

Like many others, his story is difficult to listen to. He says he was hit severely on the head during interrogation. Among others, they asked: "Who funds NUP?" "Why do (boda-bodas) follow Bobi Wine for activities?" "How much does he pay you to support him?" A criminal regime!

Common challenges unite common victims. As oppressors come together to strategies on how to plunder more and more, we too must come together and build synergies for change. Our struggles will end in victory.
