But most of these 'anti-growth' people are the ones who keep pointing out how stupid it was to withdraw from the largest free market on the planet. It's just deeply, deeply weird to ignore the measurable & obvious damage this has done, is doing & will continue to do to 'growth'. twitter.com/nadhimzahawi/s…

Starmer's completely destroyed Truss today, and nobody's been more helpful to him than Kwasi Kwarteng. Incredible. Even her braindead 2019-intake backbenchers will have noticed.

The UK media is *full* of people who love Braverman's fascistic depiction of refugees & feel 'politically' closer to the man who fire-bombed the processing centre than they do to the people in it. They'll dress it up as 'legitimate concerns', of course, but they're all complicit.

The calculation must surely be that releasing the OBR report would have a *worse* effect on the pound & the markets than continuing with the secrecy & obfuscation. When you look at what the secrecy & obfuscation did to the pound & the markets last week, this truly beggars belief.

Curtsying is objectively ridiculous and, to anybody raised in a country where epic unearned privilege is not baked in to every level of society, presumably hilarious. The inability to see this is, when you think about, irrefutable proof of the point.

This is harrowing & horrible. And given Braverman’s ‘dream’ of deporting refugees, you have to wonder whether she also derives some sort of sick pleasure from treating these desperate & vulnerable people so appallingly. It’s all so very, very sad. thetimes.co.uk/article/suella…

Why on earth is he making a promotional video on social media instead of a speech in the House ofCommons? Absolutely ridiculous. twitter.com/Jacob_Rees_Mog…

The failure/refusal of either Truss or Kwarteng to address what the Bank of England did yesterday, with some success, is just incredible. The central bank intervened to limit the damage being done by government policy & the government continues to insist that the policy is great.

Not much of a silver lining, given the size of the cloud, but at least we now know that any producer or presenter using guests from @iealondon is either deliberately promoting their ridiculous, utterly discredited agenda or treating their audience with complete contempt. Or both.

It's hard to find the words to describe just how awful Truss is but one key difference between her & Johnson is his ability to apply a veneer of plausibility to the twaddle they both talk.

Reaction to Nicola Sturgeon's claim that she 'detests the Tories' suggests that all the free speech pearl-clutchers might have a point after all. Problem is, they're now clutching their pearls about Nicola Sturgeon exercising her free speech. Perplexing.

Despite the u-turn, I think this is going to have a very long tail. There's a lot of industrial action on the horizon & every time they argue that public sector pay rises are unaffordable, the comeback will surely be that they could afford tax cuts for the rich.

Truss’s ‘reputation’ & her standing among party members rested entirely on her willingness to trumpet paper thin ‘deals’ & EU rollovers as glorious Brexity triumphs. The outbreak of reality has come very early in her premiership & will almost certainly persist for its duration.

I see @afneil, publisher of the rabidly right-wing, pro-Brexit Spectator, is wondering in the rabidly right-wing, pro-Brexit Daily Mail why the latest rabidly right-wing, pro-Brexit government is such an almighty disaster… 🤔
148
The trickle of articles by right-wing loonbuckets trying to blame what they’ve done to the country on anyone but themselves is going to become a flood in 2023, isn’t it? What a time to be alive.
