”Even if we stop all emissions from non-food sectors (energy and industry) today, food emissions alone would take us well beyond 1.5°C by 2100.” But sure, let's just leave this to the consumers to take care of by "voting with their wallets"... twitter.com/ProjectDrawdow…

Countless of people are having to flee because of the climate crisis. The time to act is now. We need to get informed, speak up on climate justice and migrant justice, and support vital organizations like @UNmigration #ClimateMigration

"Highest temperature ever recorded in the planet north of 50N latitude also shattered (44.4C from July 1941)" - @extremetemps Heat records are usually broken by decimals, like a tenth of a degree. And not in June... This heat-wave is just getting started. #FaceTheClimateEmergency twitter.com/ScottDuncanWX/…

However, it's becoming painfully clear that no real change will happen until this dominates the news so that the Business-As-Usual-Activists can be held accountable. Now they can get away with anything since the climate- and ecological crisis doesn't exist in the public debate.

"Frequent-flying “‘super emitters” who represent just 1% of the world’s population caused half of aviation’s carbon emissions in 2018." 11% of the world's population flew in 2018. Everyone is not equally responsible for causing the climate crisis... theguardian.com/business/2020/…

“The scale of the threats to the biosphere and all its lifeforms – including humanity – is in fact so great that it is difficult to grasp for even well-informed experts” 17 top scientists deliver "a realistic ‘cold shower’ of the state of the planet". theguardian.com/environment/20…

Interesting that this also includes the emissions from burning the petrol they sell. Reminder: the idea of cutting CO2 emissions 50% by 2030 is based on an IPCC CO2 budget which gives us 50% chance to stay below 1,5° excluding most feedbacks, tipping points, aspect of equity etc. twitter.com/CNN/status/139…

"We believe our unextractable numbers are likely underestimates (too low for achieving 1.5°C)" says author @st_pye Remember: this is for a 50% chance of us staying below 1.5°C with a high reliance on carbon removal. Also it doesn’t include aspect of equity or historic emissions. twitter.com/CNN/status/143…

When reading the new #IPCC report, keep in mind that science is cautious and this has been watered down by nations in negotiations. Many seem more focused on giving false hope to those causing the problem rather than telling the blunt truth that would give us a chance to act.

Shell plans to expand their fossil gas production by over 20%. But hey! Someone will end deforestation and create a new magic forest the size of Brazil, completely unaffected by the sustainability crisis that'll forever remain a giant carbon sink. That's the beauty of "Net Zero". twitter.com/SimonLLewis/st…

"This report from the IPCC is a litany of broken climate promises. It is a file of shame, cataloguing the empty promises that put us firmly on track towards an unlivable world. We are on a fast track to climate disaster" - @antonioguterres on the #IPCC report released today.

Over 3400 have been arrested and more than 1000 taken to court for protesting non violent civil disobedience in order to draw attention to the fact that we are - in just about every possible way - still failing to face the climate- and ecological crisis. theguardian.com/environment/20…

The Brazilian Amazon released nearly 20% more CO2 into the atmosphere over the past decade than it absorbed, according to a report that shows humanity can no longer depend on the world’s largest tropical forest to help absorb manmade carbon pollution. theguardian.com/environment/20…
