Development files for Super Mario World contain two early Fuzzy designs that appear to have been merged to create the Fuzzy seen in the finished game.

In Super Mario Odyssey, clipping out of bounds will allow Mario to fall an infinite distance. This slowly corrupts the pause screen due to the rendering mathematics not being designed to handle large distances; the longer Mario falls, the more distorted his face becomes.

In the mirror room in Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64, Mario's reflection does not automatically match Mario's model quality. Thus, at certain specific distances from the camera, Mario will use his high-polygon model while the reflection will use the low-polygon model.

Extremely rare official render of Lanky Kong from Donkey Kong 64, seen in an issue of the Spanish "Magazine 64". According to preliminary research, this render appears to never have been published on the Internet in an isolated form before.

Close-up look at the artwork found only on the Super Leaf pouch sold exclusively at the Nintendo Tokyo store. While Tanooki Mario uses pre-existing artwork, Kitsune Luigi, Tanooki Peach and Tanooki Toad are original drawings.

An alternative way of entering the downtown area in Wet-Dry World in Super Mario 64 is to simply perform a jump and kick in the spot shown in the footage. Mario will get caught on the ledge and vibrate automatically all the way to the entrance to the downtown area.

Due to Bowser Jr. appearing almost exclusively in pre-rendered cutscenes in Super Mario Sunshine, his high-quality model is not actually present in the game's files. The only Bowser Jr. model in the data is used in the final battle, and is so low-polygon that it has no mouth.

In an extra mode of WarioWare Gold, Wario creates crude drawings of various amiibo, among them this picture of Waluigi. This is the only time Waluigi's existence is acknowledged in any game with "Wario" in the title, despite Waluigi often appearing alongside Wario otherwise.

In Super Paper Mario, extra points are awarded to the player for shaking the Wii Remote after jumping on an enemy. The secret to getting the highest score multiplier is to shake the Wii Remote in a way that is not parallel to any of its axes in 3D space. Details in image.

The NES version of Mario's Time Machine contains sprites of historical figures in a Mario series style, most of them appearing as edits of Mario's sprite from Super Mario Bros. 2.

After appearing in Super Mario 64, Mario Party 3 and Super Mario 64 DS, Hoot the owl is encountered in Mario Party Advance, having lost all his money to gambling and being unable to fly. Hoot has not appeared in a game since.

In the title screen of Super Mario 64, it is possible to retract the facial features of Mario's floating head into his face rather than stretching them outward by utilizing the R and C buttons' functionalities. Here is Mario's head with all facial features fully retracted.

The 1991 Nintendo Power calendar contained this "Welcome to the Warp Zone" illustration, featuring an original Mario render. As the illustration is printed across two pages, I have retouched the scan to unify it into a mostly seamless image.

In Super Mario 3D World, repeatedly hitting Bowser's broken car has a small chance of playing a random Super Mario World sound effect. Due to the low chance and the high number of possible sound effects, it is unlikely that any player has ever heard them all. Details in video.

A 1999 promotional video by Nintendo of France contained a segment of low-quality Paper Mario footage using a very early build of the game. Some of Mario's sprites seen here show that the animations at that point in development were meant to be much more exaggerated.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon contains a debug feature that displays an "FPS Smiler" in the corner of the bottom screen, used by the developers to monitor the game's frame rate. Whenever the FPS dips too low, the Smiler becomes red and upset.

In Super Mario Odyssey, the shoes of the King's Outfit are shiny and reflect most major areas (left). However, when Mario enters a side area that does not natively contain reflective surfaces, the shoes fail to find a reflection map and become dull as a failsafe instead (right).

Super Mario Galaxy contains unused models for two Piranha Plant-like enemies that are notable for having names that do not seem to fit them, or perhaps hint at functionality not in the code. The one on the left is called "DragonHeadFlower", while the right one is "OctopusQueen".

In Donkey Kong Country, if a Kong throws a DK Barrel, but the level is exited before it hits the ground, then the next time that Kong is hit by an enemy, instead of dying, he will simply freeze in place with a shocked expression forever.

Before the widespread adoption of Luigi's current design in 1988, a lot of media went off the assumption that Mario and Luigi were identical twins. This 1987 Super Mario Bros. manga gives Luigi glasses to better distinguish him from Mario.

According to Nintendo's official Mario series character height chart, Dry Bones are slightly taller than Koopa Troopas, despite explicitly being referred to as their skeletons. How a Dry Bones could fit into a Koopa Troopa with these measurements is unclear.

Drawing of Peach, Mario and Luigi by Shigeru Miyamoto, seen in the official Japanese guide for Super Mario All-Stars. This is one of the very rare instances of Miyamoto drawing Peach's modern design, as he usually draws Mario, Yoshi and Toad when asked to do a sketch.

Super Mario 64 DS will become severely glitched if Yoshi throws an egg on the same frame as jumping on a Goomba. One possible effect is Yoshi becoming extremely fast. Note that the footage below has not been sped up or modified in any way.
