Other games that feature the Luigi's Mansion mansion (top left: Super Smash Bros. Brawl, bottom left: Mario Power Tennis) show the back as a simple wall. This is inaccurate with respect to how it looks in Luigi's Mansion (right), where it has a large rear section with a balcony.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Mario's height is constant regardless of outfit. Here is a comparison of him wearing flip-flops and being barefoot; note the equal height. In other words, whenever Mario puts on shoes, instead of becoming taller, his legs become shorter to compensate.

A bulletin released in 1981 by Nintendo regarding a strategy used by high-level Donkey Kong arcade players, who would wait on ladders for barrels to pass. The bulletin introduces a new part that would make barrels come down ladders, eliminating this strategy to increase revenue.

In the first Bowser segment in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, a portrait of Bowser can be briefly seen at an oblique angle (top left). Moving the camera shows that it has a mustache (bottom left). The same portrait appears in Super Paper Mario, entirely off-camera (right).

In Super Mario Galaxy, the bottom of the cave in Boo's Boneyard Galaxy contains piles of skeletons (left). These are actually multiple instances of the model for Mario's own skeleton, seen in-game when he is hit with electricity (right).

The 1999 children's activity book "Mario's Adventure Land" has Mario and Peach in Diddy Kong Racing, leading to a rare instance of Banjo from Banjo-Kazooie appearing in a licensed Mario work (top left). Please excuse the pencil marks; this is the only currently available scan.

Rare officially licensed 1990 Super Mario Bros. 3 T-shirt depicting Mario swatting away King Koopa's fireball with his hand. In the game, Mario has no way of deflecting fire attacks; the first time he was able to do this using just his fists was in Super Mario Galaxy in 2007.

If an online player in Mario Kart Wii is using a heavy male Mii wearing the Outfit A, while riding either the Wario Bike, Shooting Star or Phantom vehicles, the Mii will be displayed as stuck in a T-pose. No other character/outfit/vehicle combinations will result in this glitch.

The Korean version of Super Paper Mario, released 2 years after the Japanese and US versions, contains unique unused rooms that include sprites of 5 cat characters of different art styles and sizes. Here are the graphics extracted in the respective highest available resolutions.

The 1987 "Detective Mario" manga features a character called Fake Luigi, who wears a cap with the letter "L" rotated 45 degrees to the left, making it appear like a "V". This instance of the idea of the evil counterpart with the rotated emblem predates Wario's debut by 5 years.

A small detail in Mario Kart 8/Deluxe that is very hard to see in-game: while other tires are branded with "Mario Kart" or "Mario Motors", the Cushion Tires are branded with "Lemmy's", a reference to both the Lemmy's Tire Service signs on many tracks and to his circus aesthetic.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, if Yoshi stands very close to the large fruit in Yoshi Star Galaxy when eating it (top left), he can jump into the Launch Star that appears after with the fruit still in his mouth, resulting in him keeping his eating model for the Launch Star cutscene.

In Super Mario Maker 2, the unlockable Super Hammer allows the characters to produce crates. If Luigi enters a Clear Pipe while holding his crate facing left, it will display correctly. However, facing right, one of the L emblems - but not the entire model - will be mirrored.

The 1982 officially licensed Donkey Kong Coloring and Activity Book depicts Pauline as being a popular singer and performing on a stage, 35 years before this characterization is used in Super Mario Odyssey.

In Super Mario Galaxy, Kamella's wand has a reflection not used by any other object in the game (left). Looking very closely at the orb, we can see it is actually reflecting the Nintendo GameCube logo (top right). Extracting the texture from the data confirms this (bottom right).

Early 1985 promotional Super Mario Bros. sticker from Japan. Due to being released concurrently with the game, the drawings were made before the box art designs were finalized and thus use designs more closely based on the in-game sprites, like this Princess Peach design.

In almost all depictions of Bullet Bills they are shown to either be angry or grinning maliciously whenever they have visible mouths. The licensed 1989 coloring book "Nintendo Super Mario Bros. Sticker Fun" contains a rare instance of a Bullet Bill with a happy expression.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Tostarenans are never seen without their ponchos that obscure the shape of their bodies. With a model editor, we can see what their bodies would look like without the ponchos. Note that they have no necks; the skull is simply floating above the torso.

In Super Mario Maker 2, it is possible to permanently add more power-up options to the menu that is displayed when the playable character is tapped in the Course Maker mode, by dragging one of the wearable shells onto the character while still in the editor. Details below.

An addendum to the post about Small Yoshi: twitter.com/MarioBrothBlog… Super Mario Run is also the only appearance of Small Daisy. However, until now, her model has never been extracted. I was approached by Twitter user @El_Libre_, who has generously offered to extract the data.
