The data of Luigi's Mansion contains a test map which includes a variety of objects, among them Luigi's arm used in cutscenes and a crownless King Boo (left). Luigi's cutscene arm is much larger than his regular arms, which can be seen by positioning Luigi next to it (right).

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mr. Resetti has several speeches when summoned as an Assist Trophy. One of them includes a line where he does an impersonation of one of the fighters currently playing. Here are all his impersonations of the characters related to the Mario franchise.

Illustration of an evil Mario from a review of Mario Party 2 from the Australian N64 Gamer magazine, illustrating the joke that Mario Party games ruin friendships due to causing strife over random outcomes. Over the years, this developed into a common joke in many publications.

During the Mr. L battle in Chapter 4-4 of Super Paper Mario, if Mario grabs Mr. L, switches into 3D, throws him into 3D space, and switches back into 2D, Mr. L has no ways of attacking Mario or returning to 2D. Effectively, Mr. L is trapped in the third dimension indefinitely.

In the Sunshine Airport track in Mario Kart 8/Deluxe, veering to the right during the second glider section shows oddly-shaped rocks in the distance (left, circled). A model viewer reveals these are Koopa Troopa rocks, likely a reference to Koopa Troopa Beach from Mario Kart 64.

In the North American version of Super Mario Maker 2, Clear Conditions containing "all (1)" use the singular: "all (1) Bowser", while in the European version, it's the plural: "all (1) Bowsers". As "all (1)" is an ungrammatical construct, neither is more correct than the other.

In Super Mario World, Baby Yoshis only hatch if Mario is alone; if he is riding Yoshi, it hatches into a 1-Up instead (left). Modifying the code to force both to appear reveals they share a graphics address, resulting in Yoshi either having Baby Yoshi as a head or vice versa.

Clay model of an early concept version of Isle Delfino from Super Mario Sunshine, made by Yoshiaki Koizumi, the game's director and later producer of most major Mario titles. The only existing photo (left) is very small; I have used an upscaling algorithm to enlarge it (right).

In the demo version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, found on a 2004 multi-game demo disc, the X-Nauts are called "Boomer Gangers" when tattled. No other text related to X-Nauts is present, but this suggests the entire organization was going to be called the "Boomer Gang".

1992 promotional photo of Shigeru Miyamoto in front of a wall of TVs displaying Mario. Upon close inspection, the image seems to consist of the Moldorm battle from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past overlaid with the Mario in Real Time/Mario Teaches Typing 2 head.

In Super Mario Bros., Hammer Bros. leave their positions and start charging Mario if they are on screen for 70 time units. This can be used in 7-1 to trick them into self-destructing; by waiting to the left of this pit, the Hammer Bros. will eventually approach Mario and fall in.

According to Retro Studios 3D artist Eric Kozlowsky, this steam ship was one of the first assets to be created for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Although the ship is not used in the finished game, a few wrecked pieces of it can be found in the background of Level 1-4.

Before being finalized as stone statues, the Jaxis in the Sand Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey were planned to be living cat/sphinx-like creatures, as seen in the Art of Super Mario Odyssey book. The speaker on the right is a reference to the Message Block from Super Mario World.

In Super Mario 64 DS, if Mario runs towards a certain tree outside Peach's Castle at a specific angle, he will clip through the floor. Sliding down will deposit Mario below the ground, from where he can swim out of bounds, and continue swimming in any direction forever.

Chaining together the world maps from Super Mario Bros. Deluxe creates a full map of the Mushroom Kingdom. While some connection points are choppy (shown with black arrows), others are completely seamless (red arrows), suggesting the map could have been intended to be continuous.

Each overworld enemy in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has a unique battle ID. If the ID is changed to be invalid, the game does not crash; interactions with the enemy then simply don't start a battle and instead generate a harmless colorful shower of star particles.

Despite being featured in the major cutscenes of Super Mario Galaxy, the UFO that abducts Peach's Castle does not actually exist in the game. These scenes are video files that are not rendered in-engine; the UFO does not appear in gameplay and its model is not found in the data.

Super Mario RPG and the Classic NES Series versions of Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels all use sprites from Super Mario Bros. that are distorted to some degree. Here they are ordered by amount of distortion, with the original sprites on the left.

The Shy Guy airships from the giant battle tutorial in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story can be loaded into normal battles by modifying the code, unlike all other giant battle enemies. They appear very small, have no attacks and die to any damage, but are otherwise functional.
