The Bob-omb next to the cannon on Bob-omb Battlefield in Super Mario 64 has unique behavior. It will ignore Mario until he kills it. Upon respawning, it will get caught on a ledge, oscillate and walk off the cliff, whereupon it will ignore Mario again if he approaches it.

In Luigi's Mansion, Luigi's nose bounces as he walks. To achieve this, the nose is a separate mesh from his face and is detachable. While nose bounce physics return in Super Mario Odyssey, this is the only instance of Mario's/Luigi's nose being modeled separately in this manner.

In nearly all regions, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate box art contains Yoshi. However, to comply with German ratings mark guidelines, he was removed completely from the German version. This is the only version that sacrificed a character instead of simply repositioning the cast.

The manual for Super Mario Bros. 2 states that Clawgrip "grows suddenly", although he never grows in-game at all. In the Super Mario Advance version, however, he starts out as a small Sidestepper crab and then grows, finally fulfilling the manual description 13 years later.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Peach's outfit worn in the Lake and Seaside Kingdoms includes sunglasses as an accessory on top of her head; however, she never puts them on her face. By editing the model, we can see what Peach would look like actually wearing the sunglasses.

At the end of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Mario can agree to serve the Shadow Queen. In most versions, this makes him look angry (left). However, in the Japanese version, he assumes the sprite Doopliss uses when impersonating him, signifying becoming evil (right).

In a 2013 Iwata Asks interview, Yoshiaki Koizumi, director and producer of many Mario titles, notes the development team was "in tears" when Luigi was originally cut from Super Mario 64. 24 years later, Luigi's data was finally found, reuniting him with the game (right).

The high-resolution render of the Dungeon Map item from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time contains the word "Mario" in Hylian script, as part of a reference to Mario Club, Nintendo's testing and debugging division. Details in image.

In the first episode of Pinna Park in Super Mario Sunshine, there is a fixed-camera scene where the park director talks to Mario. If hacks are used to explore the area during this, it is revealed that two Nokis are missing their shells, appearing as floating heads and limbs.

I apologize for an error in the previous Tweet. I have been informed that the object Wario turns into is not a copy of the Final Destination sun, but an original sun-like object made up of Wario-Man particle effects. The original Tweet was deleted; a corrected version is below.

The Japanese demo version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door includes more content than can normally be seen. If a Peach cutscene is accessed, Grodus's model is revealed to be missing. Instead, he appears as the small dialogue window star (left: finished game, right: demo).

Due to the Goomba's Shoe item being known as "Kuribo's Shoe" at the time of Super Mario Bros. 3's release, an issue of Nintendo Power calls a Shoe Goomba "Kuribo's Goomba". As "Kuribo" is the Japanese name for Goomba, this translates to "Goomba's Goomba".

Designs for unlicensed amiibo reproduction cards using NFC chips to simulate amiibo functionality. To avoid copyright issues, the cards use artwork that merely resembles the character of the original amiibo instead of outright depicting it.

In the mirror room in Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64, Mario's reflection does not automatically match Mario's model quality. Thus, at certain specific distances from the camera, Mario will use his high-polygon model while the reflection will use the low-polygon model.

The "Wanted" minigame in the Chinese version of New Super Mario Bros. contains a second, unused set of sprites based on the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 3. I have created a mock-up of what the game would have looked like with them. Left: used, right: unused.

The character "Walouie" from Super Bomberman 5 could be a reference to Boshi from Super Mario RPG, which released 2 years earlier, due to a high number of similarities. Details in image.

Custom Spiny Shell traffic sign in front of the headquarters of Bergsala AB, Nintendo's Swedish distributor, in Kungsbacka, Sweden. The street the building is on is also called "Marios gata" ("Mario's Street").

Mario Tennis for the Game Boy Color features artwork of Luigi with the longest legs he has ever had in official media (left). I have taken modern 2D artwork of Luigi (middle) and edited it to show what he would look like with the same proportions as the Mario Tennis art (right).

The original concept for Glydon in Super Mario Odyssey (left) was to be a unique member of the Waddlewing species from New Super Mario Bros. U (middle) with a fear of heights. The reference was decided against and Glydon is an original species in the finished game (right).

In the vast majority of Donkey Kong's models, his default stance (T-pose) has him slouch, like a real gorilla (left). The Mario & Sonic series is unique in that its Donkey Kong model stands up completely straight (middle). This causes his tie to clip into his chest (right).

Super Mario 64's original release featured an asymmetrical M emblem on Mario's hat, the only instance of this in a 3D Mario game. Now, with the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, the emblem was retroactively changed to be symmetrical, equalizing its appearance across all games.

Neither Super Mario Odyssey nor any of the available guides for it contain a map of the Deep Woods area in the Wooded Kingdom. I have created the world's first comprehensive map of the Deep Woods. More on the process at the Supper Mario Broth Patreon: patreon.com/posts/41149874

Paper Mario: The Origami King features a place called Shroom City, which is reached via a boot-shaped car. Mario Party Advance also has a Shroom City, traversed by boot-shaped car. As Mario Party games are not usually referenced outside the series, this could be a coincidence.

To comply with Korean gambling laws, the Korean version of Super Mario 64 DS removes the Rec Room minigames, which contain casino games. This is done in the simplest manner possible by just removing all NPCs related to the minigames. Left: international versions, right: Korean.

In some games, Miis can wear Mario character costumes. Viewing the costumes where the Mii's head is inside the character's mouth without the Mii (not usually possible in-game) shows they have the inside of their mouth modeled, looking like screaming versions of the characters.
