The Donkey Kong arcade has rudimentary copyright protection where the game crashes if it detects changes to the title screen copyright. However, it only checks the "INTEND" part of "NINTENDO", so that changing the first or last letters results in the game working normally.

In Super Mario World, if two shell-less Koopa Troopas enter the same shell at the same time, they will merge into a single Koopa Troopa.

In Paper Mario, there is a blue Toad at the Toad Town train station who tells Mario he "wants to tell him something" after Bowser is defeated. Reaching him and actually talking to him after Bowser is defeated crashes the game.
156
Extremely rare official artwork of Toad and Yoshi holding hands, seen only in a single Japanese magazine promo for Super Mario Bros. Deluxe of which no currently known high-resolution scans are available.

The official artwork for Super Mario Sunshine depicts Yoshi as being green. However, in the game, Yoshi only turns green when running out of juice, a few seconds before disintegrating. Thus, somewhat morbidly, the official art depicts Yoshi as being seconds away from death.

In the code of Super Mario Strikers, the unlockable robotic Super Team has a cryptic comment calling them the "only thing mattering right now". What this might mean is unknown.

The officially licensed Super Mario Knife is an object that appears to be so rare that it is possible it was never actually released, as the only documentation on it comes from secondary sources. A cancellation of the product was possible due to its potentially dangerous nature.

The largest a character can become in Super Smash Bros. Brawl without glitching or hacking is Mario in a Mega Special Brawl, after being hit with a backfired Lightning Bolt, using his up taunt to grow even further (left). Mario's regular size is on the right for comparison.

Unique high-resolution Super Mario RPG render of Mario from the back, exclusive to a 1995 Mario-themed special issue of the Japanese Family Computer Magazine.

Game & Watch Gallery 3 contains a bizarre unused graphic of two characters, possibly stylized versions of Mario and Luigi, carrying a Pikachu in a manner usually used for animals being prepared to be roasted over a fire.

Peach's Castle Grounds act as metaphorical bookends on the entirety of the Nintendo 64 library of Mario games. The first scene of the first Mario game on the system, and the final scene of the final Mario game on the system, both take place in this location.

The data for Super Mario Strikers includes a text file called flushfile.txt, which contains nothing but the word "flush".

A series of 1986 Super Mario Bros. manga featured a design for Princess Peach that was roughly based on her sprite as seen at the end of Super Mario Bros. (insert, middle).

Normally, Mario's mouth in his models is centered on his face (left). However, one Super Mario Run render moves Mario's mouth to one side of his face (middle). Using the eye as a reference point, we can create a mock-up of what this model might look like from the front (right).

Every black hole in Super Mario Galaxy contains an image of Mario in Beach Bowl Galaxy, filtered and distorted beyond recognition alongside its outer edge.

In Super Mario 3D World, the Sprixie Princesses' cry for help was changed from "Help!" in the original to "HELP!" in the Switch version, possibly to convey a greater sense of urgency. This is the only in-universe (not system or control-related) dialogue changed in this manner.

In Super Mario Odyssey, New Donkers become increasingly more transparent the closer they are to the camera, making it impossible to closely examine their faces in-game. Extracting the models from the data, we can see their faces in maximum detail.

When Bowser attacks Peach's Castle in the beginning of Super Mario Galaxy, the Toads start panicking. However, some Toads remain loaded outside the playable area who continue their cheerful festival animations. Note the sounds of destruction and screaming Toads in the background.

On the character selection screen of Mario Kart Wii, looking closely at Donkey Kong's innermost toes shows a red texture resembling painted nails (left: normal view, middle: zoomed in). This is actually a mapping error that applies Donkey Kong's mouth texture to his feet (right).
173
Unique artwork of Mario in three different beach outfits, found only on an extremely rare officially licensed 1991 Super Mario Bros. towel.
174
Very early alternate design for Princess Peach seen in an officially licensed January 1986 picture book from Japan.

In Super Mario Odyssey, when Mario is capturing an enemy, he assumes a special open-mouthed model which uses 10 control points to deform (samples on the right). The extreme nature of the resulting deformations is likely why Nintendo decided to disable Snapshot Mode during this.
