In Luigi's Mansion, there is an extremely fainly visible object floating in the darkness outside the Storage room (left edge of left image). Increasing the brightness and contrast reveals that it is a poster of a ghost holding a trumpet (right).

In the Mushroom City track in Mario Kart: Double Dash, a smiling yellow block appears in the far background between buildings (directly above Mario and Luigi on the left). The block is too far away to be seen clearly on original hardware, requiring external tools to view.

In both of his major appearances as an antagonist, Mario is seen flying a helicopter. In addition, he is never seen flying a helicopter in games where he is the protagonist, instead using other types of aircraft. Whether this is deliberate or a coincidence is unknown.

To fit the 256x240 pixel display of Super Mario Bros. into the 240x160 pixel resolution of the Game Boy Advance, the sprites in the Classic NES Series version of the game were adjusted to take up less vertical space. Here is a comparison of Mario's original and adjusted sprites.

In Paper Mario: The Origami King, Bobby's attack sometimes misses. While this appears to be random, there is actually an indicator beforehand that allows it to be strategized around. If during the lineup phase Bobby has no "Z"s above him, he will hit. If he does, he will miss.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there is an error in Mario's "wedding" costume that results in a hole between the model's shirt and trousers, through which the inside of the model can be seen. Although the model originates in Super Mario Odyssey, no such error is present there.

Often, video games that want to despawn an object will wait until it is slightly off screen to do so. A particularly notable example is in the Rambi Rumble level in Donkey Kong Country 2, where King Zing will instantly disappear if he is even a single pixel outside of the screen.

In 2019, unused "Mushroom Proposals" art from the Art of Super Mario Odyssey book (left) was repurposed for a Japan-only Toad bandana (right). This indicates that Nintendo is willing to reuse discarded Super Mario Odyssey concept art, allowing these ideas to return in the future.

After the Game Boy Advance was announced in 2000, but its design not yet shown by Nintendo, Edge Magazine featured mockups of what they expected. Interestingly, the ideas of four face buttons and the ability to run Super Mario 64 ended up predicting the Nintendo DS instead.
