Due to Bowser Jr. appearing almost exclusively in pre-rendered cutscenes in Super Mario Sunshine, his high-quality model is not actually present in the game's files. The only Bowser Jr. model in the data is used in the final battle, and is so low-polygon that it has no mouth.

The secret alcove in Whomp's Fortress containing a 1-Up Mushroom is one of the best-hidden secrets in Super Mario 64. Development files show that the alcove was meant to contain a Power Star at some point, which would have been extremely hard to find if it was kept in.

In Super Paper Mario, Nastasia has opaque glasses that hide her eyes. Removing the glasses reveals that she does not normally have eyes, except for a few brief cutscenes. By putting the cutscene eye texture back onto her model, we can restore her eyes and see her original design.

In Super Mario 64, if Mario surfs on a Koopa shell into this gap in Lethal Lava Land, he will be stuck underneath the platform. Despite touching lava, he will take no continuous damage. However, after a few seconds, a failsafe will activate and Mario will simply vanish, dying.

In Mario Kart Wii, the poles around the finish line in the N64 Sherbet Land track have a gradient coloring. In an inventive case of asset reuse, the poles do not have their own texture; instead, the letter "I" from the banner is mapped onto them, producing the gradient.

In Luigi's Mansion 3, there is a potted plant on a carpet on Floor 8 of the hotel. The plant is programmed to always return to its initial position, resulting in it performing various erratic motions if the carpet is moved underneath it, including flinging Luigi across the room.

Extracting the graphics of the Punch-Out microgame from WarioWare: Smooth Moves reveals it is run in a window with some black pixels in the corner. These match up with the interface of an unofficial emulator, meaning the developers used it to emulate Punch-Out (details below).
