In Super Mario 64, throwing a crate, then picking it up again before it hits a wall turns it into a "deadly crate" that has the ability to hurt enemies simply by being touched. The footage below shows some enemy interactions with the deadly crate.

After Pinna Park is unlocked in Super Mario Sunshine, Yellow Toad is missing from Delfino Plaza. He is still present in the sewers, out of bounds, with a unique message. As he is standing on the death plane, Mario dies while talking to Yellow Toad, as seen in the screenshot.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Yoshi will inherit Mario's ability to lean on slopes when captured. Left: Regular Yoshi treats slopes as flat ground, while Mario leans. Right: the moment Yoshi is captured, he assumes Mario's stance and starts leaning, as well.

Unused low-quality Goomba model found in the files of Super Mario 64 DS. Due to the extremely low (4x8 pixel) resolution of the facial texture, the Goomba's eyes are fused together, giving it a cyclopean appearance.

If the same naming principle applied to Waluigi as to Wario, whereby the first character of Luigi's name is flipped and then pronounced as a letter (as suggested by his Γ emblem), then his name should have been "Guigi". Details in image.

In Mario Kart: Double Dash, there is a smooth transition between the rocky and grassy parts of the slope on the DK Mountain track (left). However, in Mario Kart Wii's version of it, this was not included, resulting in the border between the textures becoming very abrupt (right).

In Super Paper Mario, extra points are awarded to the player for shaking the Wii Remote after jumping on an enemy. The secret to getting the highest score multiplier is to shake the Wii Remote in a way that is not parallel to any of its axes in 3D space. Details in image.

The high-polygon model of the New Donk City taxis in Super Mario Odyssey, which has 5306 triangles, compared to the low-polygon model, which is over 36 times simpler at 144 triangles. The model on the right is used for the flying taxis and the ones driving on distant bridges.

In Luigi's Mansion, Luigi's nose bounces as he walks. To achieve this, the nose is a separate mesh from his face and is detachable. While nose bounce physics return in Super Mario Odyssey, this is the only instance of Mario's/Luigi's nose being modeled separately in this manner.

In both Super Mario Galaxy games, Toads appear whose expressions do not match their intended moods. In Super Mario Galaxy (left), Toads smile when they're supposed to panic, and in Super Mario Galaxy 2 (right), they panic when they're supposed to celebrate.

In the Gooigi tutorial in Luigi's Mansion 3, E. Gadd places water in Gooigi's path, which causes him to dissolve. If the player is already aware of that and avoids the water, E. Gadd will interrupt and explicitly request Gooigi to step into the water, laughing as he dissolves.

In Super Mario 64, the Slide Kick gives Mario immunity to all ground hazards, allowing him to bounce off lava, icy water, and quicksand. However, this applies only to the first bounce. On the second bounce, Mario will be hurt or die as appropriate.

The files for the E3 2011 demo of Super Mario 3D Land contain an original arrangement of the Kakariko Village theme from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, thereby making it technically a Mario-exclusive piece of Zelda music.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, nothing can prevent CPU opponents from participating in microgames on the WarioWare, Inc. stage. Even ordering them to not move in Training Mode (left) will cause them to ignore this setting to play the microgames (right).

In the selection screen of Super Smash Bros. Melee, characters are represented by artwork rather than 3D models, as they were in Super Smash Bros. In the game's data, unused animations for a scrapped 3D selection screen still exist. Below are Mario's and Luigi's "selected" poses.

To date, Super Paper Mario is the only game that explicitly allows Mario to eat the flesh of his fallen enemies. When the mammoth-like Muth enemies are defeated, they sometimes turn into Bone-In Cuts, pieces of meat that Mario can consume.

Near the end of Bowser's Star Reactor in Super Mario Galaxy, Bowser falls from the sky and starts attacking Mario. Moving the camera, we can see that off-screen, Bowser waits in a T-pose on the tower, then jumps up. Only after this does the camera show him falling down.

In Super Mario Galaxy, the bottom of the cave in Boo's Boneyard Galaxy contains piles of skeletons (left). These are actually multiple instances of the model for Mario's own skeleton, seen in-game when he is hit with electricity (right).

In Mario Party, if computer-controlled characters have 99 Stars (usually requiring cheats) and visit Boo, they will attempt to steal another Star, but that option will be greyed out. Despite this, the character will fruitlessly attempt to select it forever, softlocking the game.

In Super Mario RPG, the mine cart minigame is perfectly capable of playing itself. If the player leaves once the game starts, it will complete itself in 3 minutes and 24 seconds.

Two test messages found in the files of Mario Party Superstars. One is regular but spoken by "Plincess Peach" with an "L". The other is spoken by "キノピオ" (Toad's Japanese name) and is nearly identical, except Toad appears to scream in the middle of the message.

Mario Superstar Baseball stores graphics for text pop-ups as individual letters. The letters are displayed in correct order in the files, but due to duplicate letters not being needed, the texture sheets appear to be misspelled versions of the actual messages. Examples below.
