The Checkpoint Flag is usually an immovable fixture of levels. However, in Level 1-5 of New Super Mario Bros. U, a frozen Hammer Bro can be used to lift it and carry it around. Unfortunately, moving or destroying the flag does not change the point at which Mario respawns.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, glitches can be used to let Flavio follow Mario for the entirety of the game. Scenes not originally intended to have Flavio then exhibit "Flavio omnipresence" whereby instead of physically entering the scene, he is already always there.

In Super Mario 64, if Mario collects a 100 coin star above water while spinning, he will return to regular movement during the star collection scene. However, his spinning is not stopped, but merely suspended. Mario will finish spinning after the save prompt.

Balloon Boos are rare enemies appearing in only one level in New Super Mario Bros. They are found in confined spaces where there is little incentive to use a Mega Mushroom, but if one is used to defeat them, an obscure animation of them flying away like a real balloon will play.

In the Castle Grounds in Super Mario 64, if Mario performs a Long Jump towards a specific section of the fence near the waterfall, he will sit on the fence. Mario will continue sitting until either A is pressed or the Control Stick is wiggled enough to make him fall off.

In Super Mario Sunshine, when Mario enters the shade of a structure, he will wipe the sweat from his forehead. However, the animation has no cooldown timer, meaning that Mario will wipe his sweat after performing any action, no matter how minor, appearing perpetually exhausted.
