Many states reduced VAT to bring down petrol & diesel prices. But, many did not. So in BJP-ruled states & states that cut VAT, the VAT rates on petrol & diesel are in the range of ₹14.5/ltr to ₹17.5/ltr while in states that haven’t, they are in the range of ₹26/ltr to ₹32/ltr
