The very first thing to do today: cast your ballot! 🗳
The number of Hong Kongers who voted just passed ONE MILLION, from the first four hours. 香港加油!! twitter.com/jeffreychngo/s…
Amazing. 1.28 million people have now voted, just after noon. In the last District Council election four years ago, this number was not reached until 9:30 in the evening. twitter.com/jeffreychngo/s…
Already broke the record by now in terms of voter turnout %. But will we be able to witness a 3 MILLION vote count in the end? (That will require 72.59%.) Please ask all your friends and family to cast their ballots if they haven’t already done so. twitter.com/jeffreychngo/s…
I’m extremely delighted to announce that, despite my disqualification by Beijing, my backup candidate Kelvin Lam has won in South Horizons West with 57% of the vote. The incumbent, Judy Chan, is a protégé Regina Ip who supports police violence and calls protesters “cockroaches”.
This is historic. Early returns suggest a landslide victory for the opposition camp. Hong Kongers have spoken out, loud and clear. The international community must acknowledge that, almost six months in, public opinion has NOT turned against the movement. twitter.com/jeffreychngo/s…
Almost 3 million people voted. The opposition is winning 388 seats vs. 59 for the gov't (w/ a few more counting). Every way you look at it, this is historic. As our city plummets from being semi-autonomous to semi-authoritarian, we react by showing what’s DEMOCRACY IN ACTION.
Judy Chan was once a rising star in the New People’s Party (which fielded 28 contenders & lost 28 races). She was Regina Ip’s designated successor. Last year she lost the Hong Kong Island LegCo by-election to @chowtingagnes’s backup candidate; this year she lost to mine. Goodbye! twitter.com/C_8964/status/…
🏳️‍🌈Ray Chan @ray_slowbeat, a pro-democracy lawmaker who is gay, celebrated the victory of Jimmy Sham, who is also gay, on a day that several Pro-Beijing politicians who had opposed same-sex marriage & made homophobic comments had lost their council races. nytimes.com/2019/11/25/wor…

Please support @hkdc_us - The Voice for Hong Kong in DC and the US. It is the first professional organization on Capitol Hill dedicated to US support and defense of human rights and democracy in Hong Kong and the only group led by HKers living in the US. gofundme.com/f/US4HK

1/ As a leading nation in Asia-Pacific region, I urge the Australian gov takes an active role in safeguarding human rights in the region. "HK today, Australia tmr" is at our doorstep. Valuing trade interest above human rights only makes Australia fall prey to China's control.
13
3/ Apart from expressing concerns over HK, I call the Australian government to embed human rights clauses in its free trade agreement with HK, serving as the economic leverage to protect human rights, basic freedoms and autonomy in the city.
14
2/ Kowtowing to China's authoritarian rule & keeping silent on HK's human rights matters are just appeasement policy in 21st century. As recent reports on Chinese defector William Wang suggest, Beijing is exporting its covert operations & political infiltration in HK & Australia.
15
4/ Such human rights and autonomy clauses can also secure Australian investors' interest in Hong Kong free from China's threat. Australian parliament can also pass its Magnisky Act legislation to serve as an efficient sanction regime to provide minimum human rights protection.
16
6/ Therefore, I call on the Australia Government for pushing HK & Beijing to achieve universal suffrage for chief executive poll and Legislative Council election in Hong Kong.
17
5/ Besides, democracy is the only way to guarantee HK's autonomy and stability. Otherwise, the government and legislature will only prey to China's manipulation under the rule of Beijing-handpicked Chief Executive.

1/ I'm pleased that @POTUS PresidentTrump signed #HKHRDA as protestors fighting for the 6th month. This remarkable achievement would not be possible without the persistence and sacrifice of HK people.
19
3/ The bill signifies fundamental change of US's China policy and a new stage of the US-HK relation. Moving on, @demosisto, @hkdc_us, @nathanlawkc, @jeffreychngo and I will continue our efforts in other countries to encourage similar legislative efforts and sanctions mechanism.
20
4/ I make this urgent appeal to HK Gov't: For the good of HK, Police need to retreat from PolyU Now! Set our trapped protestors free & let them go home safely. All we ask for humbly is free-election. Turn to political resolutions & set up independent Inquiry on Police brutality.

#Live testifying at Italian Senate on the human rights situation of HK. After the signing of #HKHRDA we are determined to continue our international advocacy.
22
After the US President signed on #HKHumanRightsandDemocracyAct, it’s time for celebration and take a short break with #PokemonSwordandShield.

🇮🇹 1/ Beijing's statement on my participation at the Italy Parliament is a reckless and unreasonable threat to freedom of speech. It reveals China’s ambition to export its authoritarian regime and censorship to Italy and other western democracies worldwide.
24
2/ It's time for Italian politicians to take precautions as China’s threat is now in your backyard. I call on to stand together & take actions to defend against authoritarian expansions. We should not stay silent, or China will just step up their offensives all over the world.
25
5/ That is also the key element to maintain the autonomy and freedoms under 1country2systems, as well as the indispensable measure to safeguard foreign interests in HK. I call on the Italian Parliament to take action to pass the resolution to support democratic aspirations in HK.
