Maybe you saw Justin Wong ace his specialist subject, The Cornetto Trilogy, on Mastermind last night. But you haven't seen this exclusive video of @nickjfrost watching and answering along at home. Well done Justin, I would have stumbled on the date of the crawl, but you did not!

RIP Charlie Watts. Forever the coolest.

Well, this is just fucking cool. The @EmpireCinemas Haymarket, the very cinema in #LastNightInSoho, is playing it right now. Thanks to the amazing @tomjr1998 for these. I will intro the 8.15pm Saturday show tomorrow night! See you there x

In a year when my head was full of Sparks & Sixties pop, I did somehow manage to listen to a lot of great new music too. So here then is an end of year playlist; my TOP 50 TRACKS OF 2021. Play loud & enjoy x open.spotify.com/playlist/0lXN2…

“It’s a neon-fuelled nightmare. Dark, but the darkness is juxtaposed with these incredibly bright flashes of colour. A realistic world, but one firmly set in a dream.” - @anyataylorjoy on @lastnightinsoho

Thinking about @Criterion and those who have sadly lost their jobs yesterday. It's a peerless label & streaming channel, everyone who I've worked with there has been fantastic, so I hope those involved pull through and the staff who have left find new homes for their talents.

'Nightmare Alley' contains single shots that are better than some other director's entire filmographies. You don't doubt a @RealGDT film will be darkly exquisite, but this is one to luxuriate in. You can tell that he & @SunsetGunShot were in noir heaven (hell) cooking it up x 1/2

It’s THAT special day in Australia and the amazing Cinema Nova in Melbourne are doing a Hot Fuzz screening tonight to honour the birthday of a certain unnamed ginger teen drinking illegally in pub. Head down to Cinema Nova for a special 22/2/22 screening! cinemanova.com.au/films/hot-fuzz

RIP legendary coolcat Mike Nesmith, much more than the Monkee with the hat. He was a brilliant songwriter, solo artist, video visionary, inventor of MTV, producer of REPO MAN & more besides! Here's CIRCLE SKY, a belter of a Nesmith number from cult classic HEAD. Farewell genius.

I know the Academy is in a tough position with ABC who apparently ordered them deliver a shorter show, but no-one who tunes in to watch the Oscars is doing so on the promise that it might end 30 minutes earlier. I say, show all the categories, that's where the magic happens. 4/5

@GhostPanther The only time I have seen an audience applaud an intermission card. Amazing.

Happy Canada Day 🇨🇦 (Have some Pizza Pizza for me x)

I really enjoyed Nic Cage’s performance in ‘Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent’; he’s always been more than just the quiet/loud dynamo and there’s huge pleasure to be had seeing his low key charming side. The fact that his imaginary muse is 1990 ‘Wogan’ Cage is hilarious too.

The amazing @tomjr1998 of #steppingthroughfilm breaks down shots from the Soho trailer. As an obsessive reader of sites like @ReelStreets, I love it. London dwellers, name those streets and alleys x 1/2

Loving all the #LastNightInSoho posters all over London. Not to mention the LED bus adverts!
166
Thoroughly enjoyed @JordanPeele's NOPE on the big screen; full of arresting imagery, idiosyncratic details to chew on and (without spoiling anything) more enjoyable nods to desert set, 50's Universal sci-fi flicks like IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE than I expected. See it huge. 1/2

Love these Greg Williams BTS shots from the #lastnightinsoho shoot of Anya Taylor-Joy, Matt Smith & Thomasin MckKenzie. From today’s @ObsNewReview.

It's cute that we still continue to make cinema, since the art form arguably peaked in 1996 when they released the US version of 'Rumble In The Bronx' and slapped Ash's 'Kung Fu' over the end credits.

Out in the UK today! Don't miss it. twitter.com/edgarwright/st…

Was lucky enough to see some Succession S3. Such pleasure derived from seeing great characters trying to fuck each other over and all the while form endless side allegiances too. The best show about chess since The Queen’s Gambit. Just well written, beautifully performed heaven.

I've seen some people say 'It's okay to bump the shorts', ... but frankly, those winners are frequently the stars of tomorrow, who will in turn inspire the next generation of film-makers out there watching. I feel it's a mistake to not also let them shine live on the night. 3/5

Here is the very song I named #LastNightInSoho after by (memorise it) Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich. Written by Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley, it was their last top 10 hit of the 60's. I owe Allison Anders & Quentin Tarantino for putting me onto this total gem. Thank you all.

As someone who entirely owes their break to the creative risk taking of @Channel4, I find the continuing push to privatise it completely pointless and depressing. It’s a British success story as it is and should be allowed to continue like this for another 40 years… (at least). twitter.com/guardian/statu…
