Since everyone is keeping an eye on the weather while waiting for distortions, here's your weather forecast!

Pokémon Legends: Arceus v 1.1.0 (Daybreak) introduces Massive Mass Outbreaks, which are widespread outbreaks across a map. They have a modestly higher shiny rate than regular wild Pokémon. Here are the revised shiny rates for the new patch!
28
It feels like cheating to beat Arceus this way in the Eternal Battle Reverie for the Trainer Card mark at a streak of 50. Ice Shard never lets it move at all.

Most of my research in SWSH was because I wanted a shiny Antique Sinistea in Glimwood Tangle. Turns out there isn't a way to boost it past 1%, and the best shiny rate is 1/1365.67 with Shiny Charm. Finally, after 438,031 automated encounters over 2 years, this chapter is closed.

I took a break from LA to finish up some old research on SWSH curry Pokémon. This is probably the least well-known and most tedious method of shiny hunting in Pokémon Sword/Shield. Here's a megathread with all the findings in one place.
31
Reminder that Legends: Arceus hasn't been updated to fix the issue where shiny Origin Forme Giratina using Shadow Force causes a game crash. Altered Forme works normally. The animation is different between shiny and regular Giratina, so this is likely due to missing assets.

Beware! There's a bug in ALL Gen 8 Pokémon games involving maliciously-crafted Pokémon. It's possible to receive these Pokémon through trades in various games or HOME. The games fail to correctly render invalid markings; BDSP glitches and forces a reboot, SWSH/Legends crash.

I've been looking more into LGPE spawn mechanics over the last couple of weeks in the hopes of finding some shiny wild legendary birds. It's important to understand how the game spawns Pokémon to shiny hunt effectively! Here's a thread of what I've learned.

Good morning! Here are your Pokémon Scarlet/Violet shiny rates for version 1.0.1.
35
Tera Raids are entirely generated with cryptosecure PRNG, and future raids can't be predicted based on today's raids. This means the date skip shiny raid manipulation from SWSH is not in Scarlet/Violet. However, rewards are fixed, so share good raid rewards with your friends!

Here are the new Ribbons and Marks available in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. We don't know how to get all of them yet! The original weather (for available weathers), time, and Rare/Uncommon Marks from SWSH are in the game as well. Still no word on Destiny Mark...

Outbreaks in SV grant 2 extra shiny rolls once you have cleared at least 60 Pokémon. At that point, you can simply despawn/respawn them until you get a shiny. Combine with Sparkling Power for better results. Walking works, but here's a demo of using picnics to purge the field.
38
By the way, here is a table of all the Sandwich ingredients and their modifiers for the Sandwich Powers! Hope this helps you all find good recipes. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…

Still confused about shiny hunting Mass Outbreaks in Scarlet/Violet or purging spawns with picnics? Here's an FAQ.

SV made 6-star raids harder by upping the level to 90 (even though you catch at 75) and giving them a 25x HP multiplier. On top of that, 6-star raids have either 128 SpD EVs or both 128 SpD/128 Def EVs when battled. (SpD = Special Defense) The EVs are not present on capture. twitter.com/AustinJohnPlay…

Uh oh. Pokémon Scarlet/Violet Battle Stadium currently is using the same RNG seed for every battle. This allows us to choose moves to ensure that OHKO moves such as Sheer Cold always hit!
42
Multiple setups will work -- an easy one is Fake Out + Sheer Cold as long as the opponent does not move before you. The fixed RNG seed is why moves with under 91% accuracy always miss on the first turn, as was first noticed here: reddit.com/r/VGC/comments…
43
Hope you all enjoyed the last few days of predictable Battle Stadium RNG :P Pokémon Scarlet/Violet version 1.1.0 fixes the problem with the static RNG seed in both Casual and Ranked Battles (Singles & Doubles formats). The battle RNG is now properly random for all PvP formats!
44
Some battle mechanics science... Houndstone's Last Respects move starts at 50 Base Power and gains 50 Base Power for every KO from your party. It caps out at 100 KOs, or 5050 Base Power, if you can manage to get that many in a single battle.
45
I figured out how Arven's shiny-locked Pokémon can be shiny: The game generates 2 Shellder: a display Shellder prior to the cutscene, and a battle Shellder when the battle starts. The display Shellder is NOT shiny-locked. The battle Shellder is shiny-locked.
46
I'd like to discuss the category of encounters we call "fixed symbol encounters" in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet. They have behavior that is distinct from regular wild encounters, which has implications for shiny hunters. (Btw, these Squawkabilly are shiny-locked fixed symbols!)
47
Good morning! I updated my shiny rates table for Pokémon Scarlet/Violet version 1.1.0. Shiny rates didn't change compared to 1.0.1. This table includes the new category of fixed symbol encounters and clarifies some wording.

Annoying: The Pokémon Center Birthday Flabébé only comes in Japanese or English. However, if you claim it in another language, it locks in the nickname even on evolution. Here's my Floette named "Flabébé" because it was claimed in a Spanish save, and there's no way to change it.

Neat, Teensy Power and Humungo Power greatly increase a Pokémon's chance to qualify for Mini Mark and Jumbo Mark! Here's a table with all the details in fine print underneath.

The reason the critical catch rate seems so high in Scarlet/Violet is this: Once you've registered a Pokémon species in your Pokédex, future successful captures of that species display as critical captures, even if they were regular captures.
