An army of riot police and raptors are chasing protesters down Nathan Road. By the looks of it they may have the protesters outnumbered.
There was no warning before police used pepper spray and tear gas. Both journalists and cops were hit with no masks or protection on, and were begging for water. Protesters tried to shield us with umbrellas and volunteer medics cared for everyone effected.

This morning police were filmed chasing and tackling middle-schoolers outside Confucian Tai Shing Ho Kwok Pui Chun College in Tai Po, where yesterday around 100 students who wanted to participate in the #antiELAB strike were locked inside a classroom.
This screen-cap from Winter on Fire, coupled with a Ming Pao photo of police searching commuters on a Hong Kong bus tonight, is circulating on Telegram. The subtitles read: “They tried to humiliate him, but humiliated themselves."
From Telegram: What’s the difference between withdrawing the extradition bill on 9 June and withdrawing it on 4 September? - 3 eyes lost - 2 MTR terror attacks - 2 seriously injured in knife attacks - 8 dead - Over 100 prosecutions - Over 1,000 arrests - Countless injured
Obviously all eyes have been on Central and Prince Edward tonight but far down south in sleepy Aberdeen hundreds of people are gathering ok the waterfront promenade to chant, watch #HKprotests footage and play with lasers. This place never sees demonstration!
Some #antiELAB supporters are saying today’s airport action has already had the intended effect, with Airport Express stations closed and long lines of buses stopped on the highway awaiting police inspections. The police have done their work for them today. (Video via Telegram)
#AntiELAB protesters are filling up Central’s Chater Garden yet again today for a rally calling on US Congress to pass the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, a proposed bill to freeze the assets of local officials working against civic feeedoms and to bar them from the US.
Lady Liberty on wheels leading #antiELAB protesters’ retreat east toward Causeway Bay.
This was the first tear gas grenade fired in Causeway Bay. Seriously, what are they thinking? twitter.com/Ellaovo/status…
There are also thoughtful local people who oppose these tactics and deserve to be heard, but the “this isn’t my HK” line from expats is too much. Was “your HK” not ruined by 7.21 and 8.31, by kids getting their bones broken in detention centres or shot and blinded on the street?
These “BE WATER” mooncakes were handed out at yesterday’s protest. Inside is a message that reads: “One day we’ll return triumphant, and reunite at the bottom of the cooking pot*.” *Protest area outside the Legislative Council building
Tomorrow night, local football fans will form a #HongKongWay human chain up Caroline Hill, home of the Hong Kong Football Association. These #antiELAB demonstrations just keep getting more niche!
Just a few of the images shared online exposing the double standards of HK police last night. A man who repeatedly assaulted journalists was genially led away, while another openly brandishing a cleaver was lent a riot shield. Compare and contrast with treatment of protesters.
On the same night that police went through pains to protect the identities of gang members waving butchers’ knives at protesters, a student journalist was arrested for having a butter knife used to cut mooncakes in his bag. You could not make up this level of selective policing.
Hong Kong students at I-Shou University in Kaohsiung have begun forming “self-protection groups” after a mainland student tried to strangle a Hong Kong dorm mate who wrote a post-it supporting the protests (thankfully, he was saved by fellow Hongkongers) cna.com.tw/news/firstnews…

Hong Kong police: Our force is being pushed to its operational limits. We’re in a desperate situation. Frontline officers suffer from stress and abuse and may soon have to kill someone. (bbc.com/news/world-asi…; edition.cnn.com/2019/09/20/asi…) Also Hong Kong police: twitter.com/LamYikFei/stat…
Hey @GAINAXNET, did you license this? Chinese state media is using the Neon Genesis Evangelion soundtrack in its propaganda against Hong Kong democracy protests and I suspect it might be copyright infringement. twitter.com/CGTNOfficial/s…
Check out this great full-spread Apple Daily feature on ethnic-minority Hongkongers (no “expats”🙅) participating in the #AntiELAB #HongKongProtests: s.nextmedia.com/apple/a.php?i=… It’s not often I get to say this, but read the comments while you’re there. They’re really heartwarming.
Seeing this clip from Lam’s “dialogue” shared everywhere. The speaker declares he “loves life” & wouldn’t kill himself. The belief that protesters are being “suicided”—killed by police then found in staged suicides—has truly gone mainstream, and many are saying this preemptively.
Citizens are assembling tonight to stand up for victims of San Uk Ling, a remote detention centre near the Chinese border where arrested #antiELAB protesters have allegedly suffered beatings, torture, and sexual assault, and have been denied medical care and legal assistance.
My favourite new poster of the day so far: “We can print endless promotional material, but we can’t lose even one brother or sister!” 😻
Today the people of 24 countries join HKers in 65 Global Anti-Totalitarianism rallies. In this letter, protesters guarding “the unprotected line of defense which HK forms for the free world" ask freedom-loving people to stop the CCP "before it becomes too powerful to fight off."
